Hi FABO
Sorry if there is an other thread on this, there are so many re idler arms and pitman arms, i got overwealmed lol

Ok i have a 67 Dart,270 with PS. and 273 eng
I have heard bad things about the idler arm for this car, and am at a point of needing to replace the idler and pitman arm, as i am replacing the steering box as well. Have a used box from a parts car i had, was a 6cyl car but basically looks the same.
My question is, whats the problem with the idler arm for this car, and what do i need to look out for when trying to buy one or locate one?
I dont want to have to make several trips to parts store cause i got the wrong one.
And second question, what is the proper way to remove the pitman arm?
Do i take entire box to machine shop and it is pressed off and back on? or can i do this with rental tool?
Never had to replace pitman arm b4, all other parts, but not the pitman.
I also currently have the engine out of car, and looks like the best way for me to remove idler arm is while eng is out. looks like it would be a serious pain in the arse to try with eng in car.. Am i wrong on this?
Thanks everyone for any help. Mopar Noob here.

I think you're making too much stress about the 67 idler arm. The only real issue with it is its cost. Tes there were design flaws that were corrected after the one year but that flaw is as much or more related to how its mounted to the K frame as the arm itself. Whether the engine is there or not doesn't really factor in to its R&R either. Most any suspension parts are easier accessed with engine removed.
There is a puller made for pitman arms. A gear puller can work there also.
Some will drive a pickle fork between the steering gear and arm but..
doing that can damage the steering gear internally.

Thanks for the responce Redfish, yea im not a big fan of the pickle forks, too much effort and damage factor as u said. Yes i saw the price today at two diff auto part stores, $167.00 and $267.00 O.O Holy crud, i hope i can find it cheaper than that.
Good to know i can go get a tool to remove pitman arm myself. Thats good news.
For some reason i thought someone told me to make sure i got the right idler arm, or something like that, like some of them were labledd for the 67, but wouldnt work, dont remember where or who. Yea price is scary. Thank you much for the info :)

A small amount of fab work and welding would change the clip on the 67 K member so you can use the 68 to 72 idler arm.

Hmm good to know, thanks, too bad i dont have a way of doin any welding lol
might have to ask around. Thanks :)

I took my time and kept watching ebay, I eventually picked up an idler for my 67 for $39 plus shipping

Be sure to check the Rock Auto website also. Usually cheaper than anyone else.
