Dart with a warmed over 340, 4-speed and 3:55 gear. 90% street driven. Should I go with a electric or mechanical fuel pump and why??

Thanks

I have an external EFI pump on my cars. Those can work with a carburetor, and makes later EFI conversion much simpler. You do need to run a return line to the tank.

If your mechanical doesnt give trouble and supplies you with sufficient fuel dont f*** with it.

i was always a mech fan until our gas! ive had one motor personally fill up with fuel from a diaphragm pump fuel into the pan, and seen the aftermath of the diaphragm leaking thru the vent hole on top and lighting the cars on fire...

Nothing wrong with running a mechanical pump. It'll reliably deliver more fuel than you'll need on a street driven car.

This can be true depending on the pump and engine combo.

Here is why I like electric pumps. Consistant fuel supply and pressure all the time.

I think if mechnical pumps were the bee's knees that the big three would run them, which they don't.

To the OP, I run an Aeromotive A1000 pump with 5/8" line. I use a return line as recomended so the fuel isn't dead-headed.

mechanical isn't capible of supplying quick stable high pressure for EFI; thats why they don't use them anymore

I don't use mechanical much anymore for the same reason, when you go to start with electric weather it be 2 months or 2 years the fuel will be at the line just as quick
