Hello my friends! I´ve been way for a while, but now I´m working on a friends car suspension. His name is Marcos Trebien and he has a 74' Dodge Dart DeLuxo. The color combination is great: dark metallic green on all body and brown interior.

Some pics to you guys meet the car:

This is the basic model off the line! Have a three speed manual on the steering colunm, manual steering box and a rubber carpet on the floor.

The project will be almost the same as I did on my Dart. Will replace most of the bushings, ball joints, pitman and idler arms and shocks. The concpet is stock parts!!! Follow the post to see brazilian love for Mopars!

Let´s keep talking.

Awesome car! Does it have spool mounts and big bolt pattern hubs since it is a 74?

Hey man! Thanks for your question.

Unfortunately here in Brazil we didn't have much options and modifications along the years. All of Brazilian Mopar´s came with 318 LA engine, 3 options of transmission (4 speed manual, 3 speed manual or speed automatic) and all years suspension is similar to the 68 american Dodge Dart. So the engine mount and bolt pattern are like the 68 Dart.

On 70's our industry were very limited, but we produced nice Mopars. We have the models: Charger LS, Charger RT, Dart DeLuxo, GranSedan, GranCoupe, Magnun, LeBarond and some trucks. The cars are all A-Bodies configuration.

We produced Dodge from 1970 to 1981, the last a-body Mopar car is a Brazilian one!

Thanks once again.

Let´s keep talking.

Awesome car and he's one lucky dude! That's one of my favorite color combos too. I could probably spend 1 hour looking over all the details of it!!

Cudavert, thanks for your comment!!! The car needs to be painted, but he is really beautiful!! A lot of Mopar Car Guys here in Brazil know this car! Have a good history of nice collectors.

The is on the shop now and I'm working on suspension. All the rear are now mounted with new Monroe shocks and polyurethane bushings. Soon I will put some pics. The front suspension are all dissemble!

Keep following the thread!

Moparians,

These are some pics of Dart's old parts. All bushing, tie end rods, ball joints and shocks must be changed. We already have all parts, most of them OEM. Only some bushings that we will use polyurethane.

Check it out

Old Parts:

Shocks without any action.

Lower control arm with reinforciment. Old owner put poly bushing on the LCA, I will use rubber bushing.

ball joins loose and bushing deformed.

Hardware from anti sway bar are in bad conditions.

One of the caster/camber screw have parts missing.

Lower ball joints very loose.

Rear suspension are in good conditions. Just need to replace all bushings.

That´s it for now guys.

Let´s keep talking.

Early style LCA's....interesting! Do you know what size the front sway bar is (thickness)?

Band.-Inf.-1.jpg

Might want to reinforce those while your at it, look at my build #59 and #72.

Remember to add offset UCA bushings.

Hi Poison Dart!!!

I used off set bushing on my Dart project. My friend, owner of this car, want it original, without racing proposes, so we will use PST polygraphite UCA bushing. I love the effect of more caster. I can run my Dart on 7° of caster using off set bushings.

Thanks for your comment!

Hi Cudavert, thanks for comment!

Yes! All Brazilian a-bodies suspension is similar to 68 American Dart. Early style from 1969 to 1981, when the last word a-body was produced!

Our sway bars have 0,870 inch (22,1 mm) all years and all models have the same sway bar. In my other thread some guy told me that this is the heaviest factory size offered in american models.

Hugs!

Hi again my friend!!!

Thanks for the tip!! I told the same thing to the car owner. But he isn´t interesting on that. The previously owner welded two small metal sheet on the torsion bar end. They reinforce the LCA a little.

On my car I used FFI reinforce plates. The LCA is now much more stable than after.

Keep commenting!

Thank and hugs from Brazil.

What's wrong with the oily bushings in the LCA? They look to be in decent showed from the pic.

Cudavert74,

Look the way I did the LCA reinforciment on my 78 Dodge Dart:

Thanks for your tips.

Your rebuild is fantastic, congragulations!

Hello Aj!!

When I was installing the LCA the polyurethane bushing always came out of the pivot, about 1/2 inch. I try to remove all lubrication, put the torsion bar in place, but just moving little the LCA and it move back.... The bushing look in good shape.

One more thing, a lot of suspension guys here on FABO don´t recommend the poly bushing on LCA. What do you think? Other question, is necessary to use lubrication if I choose to use poly bushing on LCA?

I have a brand new kit from Energy Suspension, four UCA and two LCA bushing, all poly.

Thanks!

Interesting car.You say it's a 74,but the car still looks like a 68.
Interesting. Cool to see there are Mopar freeks all over the globe.
Would really like to see some interior and engine shots of this car.
Cheers.

Hey Cudavert! Those dimension that I told you are torsion bar thickness. Sorry about that mistake.

You asked about sway bar, I checked the service manual but it don´t have this information. I will measure the sway bar thickness with caliper gauge!

Hey Johnny!! Thanks a lot about your comment!! It´s a 74! Here in Brazil the production line was different than USA production. Basically we have two generation of Mopar here in Brazil. The first one is from late 69 to late 78. They are all a-bodies. The Dart´s from these age are similar to the 68 american Dart, changing only a few details.

The second generation started on late 78, around September, and ended in 1981. They look like american 74-76 Darts. Again with a little differences.

All suspension and engine are the same in all brazilian production. Engine is 318 LA and suspension is the same as 68 american Dart.

You can look some pics on Google about our Mopars. We some amazing a-bodies here!!!

Hug from Brasil!

Welcome back!
Nice looking car. Do you have much rust issues in Brazil like we do in most of the U.S.? Did they sell anything under the Plymouth name there? What type of gas can you get/use there?

Hi Clhyer! Thanks for your comment.

We have some regions that cause more others, principally near to beaches and very humid cities. Think that is like in US some good and bad weather for rust.

No, here we never produce anything under Plymouth name. Only imported.

Our gas is garbage. Very poor octane and is added on 25% of alcohol. We have the regular gas (the worst), gas with some additive (this is cool) and one that we called Podium (think is good as american gas). And we have the option to use ethanol, any gas station here have ethanol cheaper than gas!!!

Hugs from Brazil!

What is the wheel/cap combo on that car? Appears to be ralleys with a hubcap. Is that factory.
Aaron

Hello Aaron!

This is original stuff! This cap is used with a support that is installed on the wheel. Than it´s just put the cap on. We have other kinds of cap too!

Thanks!

That is cool. I wonder how they worked that out? Moved previous model tooling or raided old parts bins?
