Column shifter to Floor Shift

I am going to be going to a floor shifter in my 66 Dart that had a column shift before. Was wondering what others have done to eliminate the shifter and collar. Grind off and repair? or replace with another column. Pics would be great if you did a mod to your column.

For these early cars smooth column covers are fairly easy to obtain because so many had push button shifters and a smooth collar. I have a spare (for sale) if your unable to find one. It is really the 67-76 owners that have the difficulty in this area. PM if interested.
