..ran into another snag...if you look closely at my filler tube, it actually don't have holes...rather slots ...so i cannot mount from inside unless i use some other backing ring... gonna try the belt sander method today..if i have time.

The filler tube is held in by the screw getting held into the 1/4 panel.
Maybe use machine screws with nuts to hold it on if it cant handle the cap?
