Hahaha... indeed. We would have to gather that info here as 1 single 1969 Valiant has proven more than enough project car for me to have! LOL I do not have several models to check against.
:)

I also have a 74. It my be the difference between the Dart GT and the Swinger body styles.

Hole pattern is typically not an issue. Though the "Three hole" pattern I have gathered is backwards from cap to filler neck. This would just require a few new holes drilled in the cap. :)
I would rather drill holes in the cap than the car, for the sake of being able to remove it all for re-sale or originality.

Thats my take. :)

..ran into another snag...if you look closely at my filler tube, it actually don't have holes...rather slots ...so i cannot mount from inside unless i use some other backing ring... gonna try the belt sander method today..if i have time.

ian

Well that sucks that it sticks so far out on 74s. Cause I was gonna install it on my 74 but have yet to do so.
If you change the design could I exchange it since I have not drilled it yet?

Hey Ian,
The filler tube is held in by the screw getting held into the 1/4 panel.
Maybe use machine screws with nuts to hold it on if it cant handle the cap?

This pic caught my attention.. I need a little clarification, as my adapter fit perfect.. What I noticed is your filler neck appears to mount on the outside of the quarter.. (like the slid it in from the outside and bolted it down... On my 69 Dart it was exactly the opposite.. the filler neck was mounted to the inside of the quarter. only the heads of the screws were on the outside of the quarter... did Ma Mopar do it 2 different ways?? Or was mine a fluke? Anyone else have any insight on this?

All 73 ups were mounted like this...
Also Dart Sports and Dusters only have 3 screws holding the filler neck on
While
Dart and Valiant 4 doors as well as 2 doors have 4 holes to hold the filler neck on

I'm actually '75....same on '74 ?
That is how 73 up was mounted...Refer to upper part of post to see other differences^^^

I think the filler tube could go down further in the tank farther...bolts would make it easier.

Hopefully, I will get a chance to play with it today..

I am currently working on a solution. I may have to make 2 adapters of different thickness.
Ill need to gather the "average" amount I need to decrease the depth.

So if you are installing this on a 1973 and up.. please do me a favor and try to get me a solid measurement of the distance between the back of the cap base, to the body itself.
I will figure up and average and see about making a thinner version.

I may be able to make a thinner version and just include a spacer of the difference for the older cars.

I will attempt to find a realistic solution to the issues for the 73' and up guys! :)

Just a thought..

Sorry for the delay in response..not feeling particularly well.

None of the original screw holes line up with the holes on the gas cap...so could I leave the filler where it is and just drill new holes..then go back and remove the original 3 screws and re assemble ?

ian.

Yes. Thats what most people have done. However I "think" most have drilled the new holes in the cap so that there is no irreversible damage to the car itself. In other words... put new holes in the cap, not the car. But this is completely your preference of course!
:)

I thought the thickness on my adapter was great. If it were any closer to the body, the release would hit the body. The first pics make it look like the cap is on un-even, but it's not. What do you guys think? Should I shave mine down?

Awesome BOZVALIANT! Those wheels are sweet too! Thanks for the pictures!

As for the "thinner" adapters, it would be fore the later model cars with a different filler neck install from the factory.
I am sorting through the details at the moment.

Thanks again all!

I would want it snugger..Bozvalient, does your gas filler tube bolt on the inside or outside of your rear quarter ?

Thats where mine sits..you really cant get much closer, or as he said the release will indeed hit the body

Mine too...but I set out further...wonder why the difference..maybe it would help if you paint the gasket the same colour as the body...

I have had to put my fitting on the back burner fora while.

ian.

Glad to see that the fit is as intended. I actually had a tighter clearance in there originally, and it was just too "iffy". All it would have taken to hit on a few cars was a second paint job. Hhahahaa...
