Update on Engler's Junk yard off I-81 in NE Penna, Bob who owns the place says they will be crushing starting now. Hundreds of 40's, 50's, 60's cars, most are beyond restoration, but you can easily kill an afternoon just walking around. Lots of cars with decent glass, stainless trim, decent bumpers, busses full of hubcaps and other parts. Closed all day Sunday, and also closed Wed and Sat afternoons. I would recommend calling first (570) 868-3990. Take I-81, Exit 159 Nuangola, head west 2-1/2 miles to 1768 Stairville Road. White garage on the left "Englers Auto Parts", stop there to sign release form and to get directions to the yard.

Near the burg of Wapwallopen.
Yard is located in Dorrance Twp., 2 1/2 miles
off Route 81 exit 159 (Nuangola exit).

Hours: 8:30 am to 5 pm M, T, Th, F
8:30- Noon Wed and Sat

Very easy to get to off 81, I've killed three Saturday mornings there and have done more walking than pulling parts. Very neat for someone my age to be able to walk through a junkyard and see all this old iron still sitting around. Between the next to last time and the last time I was there which was probably three months time he crushed out what I would imagine to be approximately 100-200 cars. He tells me he's going to keep nibbling after it until its all gone. He does at least seem to be going through and crushing out the cars that are in the least complete condition. Good guy to deal with. Most Barracuda stuff is gone.... :(

Going up this Saturday to pick up a 8 1/4 rear Bob pulled off the 73 Duster up against the stone wall. Plan to get there early and take a few hours to walk the yard. I love this place. You're right, Bob is a stand-up guy to deal with!

As i noted, I'll be there on Saturday but I have no idea what a Wayfarer looks like. Is it a Plymouth or a Dodge? Post a picture if you have it. I'll ask Bob, he knows all of his inventory.

Humm, I work in scranton and I have an aunt that lives close to there. Maybe I should make a trip.:burnout:

If anyone is looking for parts for a 65 Dart GT, there's one in very good condition in the yard. From what I can see, it's pretty complete from the firewall back....including the interior. I'll take pictures when I'm there this weekend.

Well, I know this car has been sitting in the dirt of NE Pennsylvania for around 30 years...best guess, so I'm guessing the frame is pretty rusted. I'll see how good the sheet metal is but as I recall, the interior was in decent shape. It might come down to making a trip to the yard and stripping what you need from it rather than having it towed to LI....but it's your call. I'll take some pictures and relay my impressions and give you Bob's number.

I'm coaching my daughters soccer team so my next trip wont be until the last weekend in October....soccer takes every Saturday morning away for at least half the year.... :(

thanks man, i would drive down and trailer it home. would be easier than spending the day stripping it in the JY. i am off until 10/21 so i can drop down there some time next week.

From my conversations with him, he's in no rush to crush the entire yard. I'm assuming he's looking at the end game. I imagine if you can't pass a junk yard down to the kids, there's not many buyers out there. Going in November in the cold weather months is probably better. The weeds are down and you can see more of the car.
I've spent many hours this summer picking hood ornaments off of cars from the 40's and 50's.

My brother and I have been there.......in July 2012, and there were over a 1000 vehicles then. It is a crying shame
that it is being crushed, as there were several thousand good parts to be had. Alot of A-bodys, B-bodys, and other brand x cars. There were a few 68-69 RR's as well, but were pretty well stripped. We were going to buy some parts cars from him, and spend thousand dollar bills, but just could not come up with any deals, of course, it is about 650 miles from home. Bob is a good guy, but can be a real hard*zz, and an ornry ole man too, but it is his own personal collection, and he can do with it, what he please's. We spent quite a bit of time there one day..... and knows he just wants to permanately retire, as what he talked to us about.

Not my post nor do I have a brother. Just some info from some else that I posted to help anyone else that wonders what cars are there. Hopefully someone takes some current pics of the yard and post them here for us.

It is always a crying to shame to hear stories like this. Pics would be great. Any idea why he is crushing? Is it government pressure or pressure from HOA's that built neighborhoods nearby? This is usually the case behind an old situated yard suddenly smashing everything. It happened to a famous old yard out in California a few years ago. Footage of the destruction is on youtube and its really quite sad. A classic is a classic, no matter the brand. In one video you can see the cars all piled up. Tons of '50s cars, Corvairs (Monzas and Spyders too), vintage '30s and '40s iron, even '55-'60 Plymouths and Dodges (Christine style). In the crushing video, you see a '55 Chevy sedan and a '57 Ford Country Squire destroyed.

there was a famous yard in PA a couple years ago too where a neighborhood was built around this 60+ yr old yard. The HOA people cried foul and forced them to destroy everything. I think it was called Braumbaugh or something. I remember the only cars saved were a '71 and '73 Challenger and even those were iffy.

If you head out there Saturday, could you keep an eye out for a few things, and maybe ask about general prices? I'd be interested in any 73-76 duster dart that has a sunroof. Could be just a shell, or could chop off at the bottom of pillars. Also a decent rolling body of a Demon. Hope thats not asking too much. If they have any of the above, pics are greatly appreciated!
