Has anyone modified there clutch pedal ? From the 5 1/4 inch old lady pedal throw to the 6 inch throw? If so do you leave the over the top spring off or put it back on ? I have a center force clutch. Rite now at 5 1/4 I'm not getting the clutch to disengage with pedal to the floor unless I adjust the throw out bearing against the clutch fingers. If I adjust it back away from the clutch fingers can't get trans to go into gear. So I'm hoping that the mod will help . In the pic you can see its 5 1/4 and I will extend it to 6 inch will put up more pics after the mod . I'm running 440 scatters shield and A833 overdrive . With big block a body z bar

I was thinking the longer the peddle the farther it moved, 6'' would be a softer/easier peddle if your legs was long enough, easier to push the clutch in with a 6''. It may move the throw out bearing farther. Bump for you, I would like to know more about this myself

Mike if I'm not mistaken changing it would actually make the pedal stiffer. I believe he's talking about extending the clutch side of the lever so when you push the pedal down it moves farther (increased ratio). Correct me if my thinking is wrong Moparisbest.

That is correct fishy . There was a write up about the mod on mopar muscle .

Somewhere on here there is a post or two about this. OldManMopar posted photos of the "granny" /6 and longer HP linkage

I see, I was mistaken :glasses7: Yes you are right ,it is on the clutch side and it did make it harder :D I got confused :-?, Thank you :D

Yes just testing the waters to see if anyone has performed this mod . And see if they leave the over the top spring on are take it off with the diaphragm type clutch .

I'm NO expert, but recently had a problem with a 4-spd pedal sticking. Felt great after the over center spring was removed......

It's a free guess for you to try.

Yes it will give you more throw at the fork.
You don`t need the OC spring with the CF kit.
Removing it will not give extra throw.
Adjust fork 5/32 play.

Rite extending the clutch pedal pivot will give more throw. Removing the spring will only keep the pedal from sticking close to the floor

Diaphragm clutch you leave it off and add a heavier return spring. These pressure plates do not have centrifugal weights to help it engage. The pedal will not come off the floor when shifted at high RPM's with the spring on.

On borg&beck finger type plate you put it on It keeps the bearing off the fingers when released. It also helps to push the pedal.

Hey, I just performed this exact modification. I have a 360 in my '65 Cuda with a 4-speed OD gearbox and a Centerforce clutch. I had the exact same problem you have with adjustment. The throwout bearing was always riding the clutch fingers. So I cut and welded the top bar to extended the length between the pivots to exactly six inches. There's a Mopar Muscle article here:

http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/...12_four_speed_a_body_clutch_pedal_adjustment/

I ditched the large overhead spring and installed a small return spring between the fork and bellhousing.

It works quite well. It allowed to *just* be able to adjust the throwout bearing clearance so it wasn't making contact with the clutch fingers. It did make the pedal a touch harder to push, but not by huge amounts. In the future I intend to go to a hydraulic clutch just because I dislike the heavy clutch pedal so much.

Good luck!

Just the info I was looking for Marcus . This has to be the best mopar sight by far . Thanks fabo

Happy to report that this was just the trick to making this setup work . So never say never . Set up , 440 bored and stroked to 496. Lakewood scatter shield . A833 o.d with Schumacher tri y headers . What made it work was a few mods that will require some welding and fab skills . I will list all mods with pics on my build thread thanks

Another possible solution you could look at would be to modify the z bar lengths to get the extra movement. May be an easier mod for some than the pedal, but should give similar results. It's all just about the ratios. Pedal pivot to linkage ratio, z bar pedal side to clutch sidea ratio, and clutch fork to fork pivot ratio. Some are easier to modify than others, but all should give the same overall results.
