'1970' Road Runner '383' vs. AMC Rebel Machine '390'

-
When I worked on the rail, there was a junk yard next to one of the sidings. I could see this car with twin headlights and mean looking lines and could never figure what the hell it was. One day my curious it's got the best of me while I was in the siding waiting on a bad meet. Did some trespassing and found it was an AMC rebel. A 68or69. Nice looking car with very similar lines to a mopar.

Not Rebel 'Machine' was 'White' with the red and blue stripes.

If you knew what to order from the Parts Department 'over-the-counter'
{Group 19 Performance Group}, you could make them run with the
Mopar 383's, Ford 390's, Chevrolet 396/325 HP, GTO's and 4-4-2's.

This thread is funny, seeing as one of my favorite mopars is the 70' roadrunner and one of my dream cars is a 70' rebel MACHINE

69 Cuda 440 Are you saying the green one is not a Rebel Machine? They did come in other colors beside Red,white,and blue.

'3' Mopar Guys from Nebraska checking out the Rebel 'Machine'.

"You know something Bubba, this 'Machine' would make a nice Tow Car for our 63' Max-Wedge."

Why you picking on Nebraska? Never heard of Pete's Patriot? Record setting '69 SS AMX from Kearney, Nebraska.

Funny this match up would come up here. My boss back in about '74 had The Machine she bought new in 69. A co-worker had an orange 70 Roadrunner. They would race each other every so often. The RR always won, and it wasn't because the boss couldn't drive. She raced motorcycles and drove a Norton when she wasn't driving The Machine.

451 Cuda,

Apologies, no knock on Nebraska or the 69' AMX Super/Stocker.

Just a tease on 1970 'The Machine'.

Nebraska wasn't necessarily Rambler Country back then, despite the great success
of 'Pete's Patriot' of Peterson Motor Company {Pete Peterson}.

The Machine,

They could run decent when they added some components from the 'Group 19'
Performance Catalog.

* Camshaft.................{Type 2 = .477" Lift ~ 302* Duration ~ 98* Overlap}
* Holley 3-Barrel..........{930 CFM}
* Edelbrock Intake........#R4B
* Mallory Ignition
* Doug Headers
* 4.10 Gears.............{For Street}

That got you into the high 13.00's.

Super Stock & Drag Illustrated,

Tested a new 1970 Rebel Machine 'Press Test Car' at New York National Speedway in May 1970.

An 'off-the-showroom-floor' 'stock' 4-Speed with 3.54 Gears w/Twin-Grip Differential
from Hicksville Rambler.

Results............. 14.80's @ 95 MPH
Best Time......... 14.82 @ 95.5 MPH

After 'tweaking' by the Racing Tech Heads of American Motors.

Best Time......... 14.66 @ 96.8 MPH

They looked much better with a 'Solid Color' paint scheme.
