Traded my mild 448" BB to a guy named Jim for a 6.1 in pieces. 6.1 wasnt ready to put together ,even close, and now have found another passenger side head since he sent me with 2 lefts, and bought pistons in 4.065 since a couple of the good scores were in 3 cylinders that would've used oil for sure. Now after spending another $450 for a good head to send to cnc porting, i might be making some progress. Gonna fit the block into the K member and buy headers too yet. Need to purshase a 31003 pan,oil block off,oil cooler, crank, rods and bearing THEN I might have some Lemonade. We will see, have a truck wiring harness I could work with if I go MSPro or might still send the cash for MM standalone dont know yet. But here she is after painting block.

I would be missin my 488.

Why use the Milodon 31003 pan instead of the 31000? Seems like another $200 for 1 more quart of oil capacity?

For that other $200 you could buy all the other parts needed, pickup, dipstick, windage tray and gaskets.

Do you have the plastic covers or the rare metal ones? I've got a pair of the metal ones I'm planning to send in for coating.

Because its a trap door road race pan. I agree they're big $$$ but they are super nice and I plan to hit some hi-G loads. It uses the same pickup as the 31000.

FYI - I do not believe the pickup is the same part number. I called milodon twice about it. Both guys said it was a different part number. The first guy gave me the part number and it was the same as the 31000 pickup. When I called the second time, the guy said their catalog has a mis-print for which pickup is needed for the RR pan, and that the RR pan pickup is slightly more vertical into the pan because of the baffling.

All that to say, call Milodon to verify which pickup is needed before you buy.

Hey I got a raw deal in the end, the guy claimed to be a Boeing mechanic so I thought that meant he was solid, my bad. The 448, not 488, I built 19 years ago and while it was a good engine, I was wanting more power. So im looking at it with knowing I was gonna build a new big block with GOOD heads and all the money that goes along with that. I will still be money behind when it comes to engine management and the TTI mega dollar headers that I will use. This engine will be 420", a 247/255/600 cam and cnc'd 6.1 heads that will flow in the 360's at .600 with stock valves. It should make some steam.

I think you're doing right. This will be a major upgrade in power for you. Sorry you got the bad end of the deal on the 6.1. You'll be glad you made the swap once complete.

Thanks, I have a tall $$$$ mountain to climb right now, but the idea of 600+hp and 7000+rpm capability with a hydraulic roller on pump gas is alluring enough. I need to sell some more stuff so I get headers for mock up and building mounts. Then I have to decide if I want to repaint engine bay. Have been looking at some of you other guys with smoothed firewalls and no holes everywhere and I think I want that to. Been thinking about painting the engine bay the same B5 but with a satin clear.

Yep the engine compartment it under re-construction, couldnt see putting a trick looking new engine is my swiss cheese engine bay. Gonna re-do my core support and inner fender braces too. Plan to hide all the wiring and starter relay etc.

How much to you think this 6.1 will weigh compared to you 448 dressed the same?

I'm guessing i'll lose 50-70lbs from my iron headed short deck BB. I wish I had a scale to weigh engines with. And I blew it my not scaling the car before I jerked the old iron. But I promise to scale it when its back together Steve.

I have neither a complete BB or Gen III at this point. Gen III vs. SB with aluminum topend, SB is lighter but I dont know how much.

I thought the Gen III (alum heads) was lighter than the Small block with aluminum heads??

I though the Gen III block was much lighter than the LA block??

I wish someone would have a weigh party. I cant see a Gen III block being lighter than a 340 block. Only weights ive seen that I trust were a 5.7 Eagle truck motor with no fluids or accessories weighed 512 lbs. And then a 470 B engine all aluminum except block with 7 qts. of oil and no acc weighing in at 519 lbs. That was all Ive found that I thought was reliable. In my case im doing it for a small weight savings but more for the power and efficiency of these new beasts. Plus TTI has their swap 1 3/4" header that clears the Borgeson box. So I took the plunge.

Cool. Well that sucks you got beat but a cool change.
I originally wanted to do. 5.7 in front of the t56 in my duster after 2 bb darts. I looked at all the costs, and my pile of left over bb stuff and I just couldn't justify it. Went with the 400. Ran that for a while now it's time to build something. I found a brand new truck 5.7 I was liking the borgeson box and tti headers,l figured I'd go with them. But yet again I can't justify it. New headers, new QuickTime bell housing, new steel flywheel, home made bb K frame useless... I got to the point I figured I'm better off selling the car and starting over.
I guess that was another brainfart I don't have the time to build another car.

BB- just hold on,You'll be pleased when all is said and done,Take your time and get the right parts for you application,Nice job on the fire wall, gave me another idea--LOL,That motor will be a monster when all is said and done and you will be very happy,All my Mopar Guy's up here in the great state of Wis are pretty much pissed at me in a good way because they have $15,000 to $20,000 in there BB's and I have this (tiny) little stroked SB hemi that wipes them up at the track and I don't have $10,000 in mine, you will be VERY pleased when all is said and done--Steve

Trying to get the ugly out of the engine bay.

I guess I should update this deal.
Here is a shot of the TTI "Borgeson" headers doing what they do, NOT clearing a Borgeson..

After I moved steering box approximately 1/8-3/16" away from engine I still had to stay with the trend of buying $800 TTI custom/swap headers, DENTING them for clearance

After I recovered from header dent remorse, I put engine where I wanted it and built driverside mount. Also notice button head bolt and custom grinding of steering box...

I know she looks a little funky but I can R&R header with mounts bolted to engine

Somewhere there is a 2nd Gen Ram 2500 missing half of its upper control arm

Gonna bolt the lower half to the K member so it can be removed completely, just in case.

Here is where she is probably the happiest location wise, TTI told me I could just move my engine forward to fix the design flaws in their headers, F@#$ that, that would cause a chain reaction of BS I would have to change.
