Looking to paint my engine bay before installing my engine, I think a quart would be enough, what is an estimate of the cost of a quart of single stage paint, and what else would I need? (reducer)
Thanks

All depends on Name brand and color.I would buy 1/2 gallon if you are painting the bottom of the hood too.I would rather have too much than not enough.

$25 at the auto parts store

No way not even close, maybe in 1970...lol

Talk to your local paint shop, at the very minimum you will need reducer, hardner and 1+ qts of paint depending on the color, and what the base is you have now.

Most likely will run around $200.00 for the basics up to about $500 depending on the color.

I got some to do mine in June. Quart of PPG JE1 $35, 8oz hardner $18, qt of reducer $12. Quart was more than enough to do 2 coats on bay and under hood. That was 'Cinnamon Poly' (red/brown metalic) over mostly same color original paint and some red primer. If color change probably need a 3rd coat and would not have been enough with 1 quart.

the paint shop supply I used to deal with will put your color in A spray bom.if you don't have one I can get their address and maybe they can send it to ya........and it will have the clear and all in it buy a case of 6 may be your best bête but i'm sure one can will do.depending on color.............hope this helps....Artie:coffee2: O and if you pm me I wont forget about you im hell for for getting hoo I try to help.............

I got some spray cans the color of the car (74 duster b5) and it didn't cover very well and at $25 per can I thought maybe a quart would be cheaper and better job?

dam that goes to show how many years its been since I bought any.but still more than likely cheaper and get a better paint.............Artie

what color? B5? some colors bleed more than others and might require more or less depending.
Me, I would get a good paint don't get cheap here, as it will need to hold up to chemicals and heat. PPG concept (tell them you're going single stage) or something along those lines, paint, hardener, reducer. maybe even some primer and hardener 200ish?

Clean the crap out of everything before you even start prep sanding. Make sure the master cyl is not leaking anything and clean extra in that area, Brake fluid is nasty stuff and that area tends to get/be saturated in old fluid from the years. It will lift and eat the paint right off.

Paint is is like women better they look the more they cost!! PPG base coat with PPG clear 2021 part # should cost about 300 to 400 bucks to do under hood but I would buy the color for the hole car at one time so it's mixed all the same time so it's all the same color! But if you can do that solid colors spot match better IE painting under hood door jams and truck then the body or painted in peaces.

Depending on the color a quart of Dupont Nason single stage will probably run $60-$80 or so. Been a big price increase in the past year. If you use that you will need some activator and urethane grade reducer also. Probably be in the $100-$120 range total.

Check TCP Global.

A kit with paint, hardener and activator is around $50 for an AU Orange paint. Color will change price in most cases. I used TCP restoration shop to paint the engine compartment of my Dart. It worked well and looks good.

I just went to painters supply here in Florida and bought 2 quarts nason 1995 neon blue color base +activator for 86.89 I had clear so that wasn't an issue. but single stage was about 48-58(color dependent red is more!) per quart +activator 20-30ish. add reducer and you'd be right at the 100 mark.
