I'm finally ready to start my engine build and wouldn't you know it, Egge is completely sold out of 273 domed pistons in all bore sizes. They don't even have any castings in stock. I was told it would be 1 to 2 months before they could cast up a batch and get them machined.

If you are planning a 273 build using Egge domed pistons, get your order in. Maybe that will motivate them to move up the production date. I'm going to have the engine builder rough bore my block so I know what size to order, and then I'm going to wait.

My block cleaned up at .030" over, so I called Egge to order my pistons. Good news. They've moved up the production schedule and the ETA is now 2 to 3 weeks.

Well glad they moved production up. This just goes to show, if you call somewhere and they have it in stock, you better get it then. I have a feeling this is something we will begin to see becoming common in the hobby.

Had the same issue with .060 440 Pistons last spring. Everytime I found a catalog listing I liked, none were in stock. They only run the oddball mopar stuff a couple times a year. Just not enough demand for it.

Yes, I think we will see even more waiting for parts in the near future. When I was building an older car I went through this because the parts just didn't have enough demand to keep many in stock so when they had them it was time to buy right then or wait again.

I have a set of forged .030 TRW L2222s. Tops have been milled down to get some reasonable CR out of them. Was planning another 273 build but decided not to go that route. If interested PM me

I would be interested in those pistons if the OP is not. Pm me if they are still available. Also how much was milled off?

They're worth the wait! tmm

dart4forte's pistons turned out to be .060 over so I'm just going to wait for the Egge's.

If it helps I checked with a buddy of mine at Kanter Auto Products and they have both the high and low compression 273 pistons in stock teflon coated up to 60 over. Just a thought if you can't wait.

Thanks
James

Called Egge for an update. My pistons don't have a production date yet which means late December or early January at the soonest. That makes the initial estimated eta pretty accurate and the updated eta was just BS to get me to buy.

I think I will call Kanter Monday morning. Is Teflon on pistons a good thing?

I just cancelled my Egge pistons which were backordered until January and ordered a set from Kanter. I learned that they are made by Rebuilder's Choice. Price was higher and shipping was $60, but I got out of paying sales tax because they are in NJ and Egge and I are both here in CA.

According to the measurements I got from Kanter, their pistons are .022" taller than the Egge's, which for me is a good thing. They are also Teflon coated. Not sure if that's a good thing, but my engine builder wasn't concerned.
