not too much to add but i did get the dash and insides of the door done. I just finished buffing out the dash and now i am repainting the plastic dash bezels. now i can get the interior somewhat back together and move on to the door jambs and the dark blue part of the doors. slooooow process but just keep chippin away.

Thanks after going back and forth on the color forever i really liked the electric blue (b-5) color but it didnt go with the medium blue in the interior at all so i decided it would look best the original blue and i am very happy with it its kind of a purplish blue really nice. I cant wait to see it on the whole car out in the sun.

Well i havent posted any pics in a while, too busy enjoying summer oh yeah and spending every other free moment sanding and sanding and priming and sanding!! I got the trunk painted and the engine bay done too. Here are the latest pics of progress this is right before i put it in the garage for a last whole car prime and a first base coat to cover the primer. I am now wet sanding out the last of the imperfections on the base coat and hope to have it ready again for the final base and even some clear this weekend cant wait!! I didnt realize i didnt take any pics of the engine bay or the trunk yet but ill get some on here soon.

Atta Boy!!!!!! Lookin awesome!!!!! doesn't look like you are going backwards at all when it is done you will be feelin it!!!!!!
Heres the lastest pics. If it seems like im going backwards i am. its getting deeper and deeper here. I decided I might as well paint the interior doors they were somewhat scratched up so then i figured i might as well paint the dash while im at it and so on and so on you can see i am still undecided about the color blue i sprayed the one quarter and under the hood electric blue and the other quarter is close to the original dark poly blue.

If you don't mind me asking what size tires are you running, they fit the Dart so well?
Bob

Looks really good. Normally not a fan of dark blue, but that really looks nice. Any tips for painting outdoors? Actually i didnt paint it outdoors i painted it in my garage but i did have the doors open. I sprayed it early in the morning and didnt get any bugs or dust in the base coat. I noticed the base dries super fast but the clear takes a while longer allowing for more bugs and dust to mess with you. I am planning on spraying the final base and clear in my garage all closed up.

The tires front are 180 80 r15 and the rears are 235 60 r15. They just fit with my springs resprung however they will rub on a turn with people in the back seat. 225 60 probably would have been perfect no rubbing.

I am assuming you mean the mags not the 13 inch steel wheels lol

well after spraying the base/clear on and sanding and buffing it came out pretty nice. Then after a few days the base coat started wrinkling under the clear in a few different places and i dont know why. talk about a sick feeling all that work down the drain. After talking with many different people and getting many different reasons for why it happened in the end it seems there must have been some kind of reaction between the old paint and the new. Anyway 6 months of work down the drain and now to start over. I got some razor blades and stripper and took it down to the metal. Here we go again at least there were no suprises hidden under all that paint this thing is solid.

Very nice work , like you said at least you can see with your own eyes how solid the old girl is. As far as a color goes find something that makes you happy a shade of blue you can not live without that makes you smile every time you see it or heck even resale Red if you choose. I have found no reason why staying factory adds any value and the big scheme of it all is you have to be happy. Good Luck and keep up the good work.

Bummer. Make sure it's sealed before your paint. Even though you're down to metal this time, there's fillers and such on there. Just be happy you have a nearly all solid car though, even though it sucks to start over on the paint, at least you know that when it's done, you have a solid car that prepped right will last a long time. A lot to be said for that. That'll be an awesome car when done!

yeah believe me i was really upset about the 6 months of work and not to mention the money in the paint and supplies. I did have some evil thoughts about matches and gasoline but after stewing for a few days i just decided to redo the whole thing. Its only time and money and lots of both right? haha This website is great because no matter how much work/money you have into your car it isnt hard to find people on here that have put alot more of each in their ride and it is humbling and inspiring. I look at it this way, this will be the second time around and it will be that much nicer (i hope) i had nothing to do all winter anyway!?!

and this last Saturday moving it from the body shop to winter storage. It was super dusty form being in the shop and still needs a final scuff and buff but i have lots of time for that. THe last pic is after my son wiped all the dust off and you can kinda see the color better. It looks good in its original dark blue poly and matches the interior nicely. Cant wait to get the mags and all the bright work back on it and drive it!!

Looks great!Iit is too bad you had to strip it to bare but probably the best thing. I need to strip mine too. I have layers of poly and lacquer. Keep the photos coming next spring when you put her back together. tmm

Very nice color on an excellent looking car. Hope to see it in person at some of the local cruise/show events when you get it finished.
