Hey guys,

Quick question, my dad has a 1973 Dart Sport 340 #matching, 90,000 original miles and when you drive above 55mph there is a slight vibration in the steering wheel that we can not figure out. All drivetrain is original. All mounts are replaced.

Also my 1974 Dart Sport 318 does the exact same thing!

Any ideas of what could be causing this? Has anyone ever run into this before on your cars?

A vibration in the steering wheel indicates a problem with the front end, not the drivetrain. Mine was doing it and it was junk tires, even though they only had 5000 miles on them and looked fine.

tires or front end,..my money on tires especially if it sets for long periods...theyll cure out the rubber outta round...

I suppose that makes sense. My dad hardly ever drives his car. Mine is a more of a every weekend driver. The vibration happens occasionally not all the time which is weird to me.

Thanks for the advice

Check for wheel balance or a bad front bearing or bad tire.

Sitting seems to be hard on tires. If he lets it sit for extended periods of time tell him to jack it up and sit it on jack stands to take the weight off the tires. That'll pretty much eliminate the problem.

if he rarely drives it then he probably has some out of round tires. jack up the front end and spin up the tire. put a reference point close to the tire and you'll probably see your problem

General rule of thumb is 30-35 and 55-60 mph is tires if you feel it in the steering wheel.
