I did a clutch on my friend's mustang this weekend and no tranny jack made the install a giant pita. In a few months we're gonna do my DD truck and i figure it will come in handy when i put a new trans in my duster. A T5 is a "light" transmission, but not so easy to lift when you're on your back and under a car on jackstands.

So what do you like? There are the HF tranny jacks, but i don't know they're one of the junk products or worth the money.

I have the HF $50 tranny scissor jack an it worked great for an 833 clutch install.

Most tranny jacks require much taller jack stands and a taller jack to get up there.
First time I used my harbor freight stuff to drop a automatic trans, I had to dump the trans off the jack before it would come out from under the car. DOH !
As for that Mustang... If it was a V8 there is a way to have that exhaust system hold the trans while clutch is replaced.

I'm actually fine with having to muscle the tranny off a jack onto the floor to get it out from under the car. Its the pain of fighting to lift a trans over my head to put it in the bellhousing that's the issue.

It was a v6 mustang and i don't think that would've worked. The car had 170k and needed a new pilot bearing too. So the slide hammer probably wouldn't fit with a trans hung up on the x-pipe/hangers

I have rented one from our local rental yard. It was a big heavy duty thing with screw-type tilting adjusters for the platform and a high lift capability to use with tall jack stands or ramps. One nice feature was that I didn't have to find storage space in my garage for it when I was done.

I lay down on the creeper and lay the thing on my chest. roll under the car and bench press that som-***** up in there.

I used both of the cheaper versions that HF sells. I went the with the cheapest one and have used it numerous times. I even use it when changing out the center sections on my rear ends. Back in the day I used to lay that cast iron 4 speed on my chest and bench press it up in my dart but not anymore.
