In 2001 I built my first 440. I had no involvement with these internet forums though. I got advice from Mopar Magazines.
I pulled a 1978 440 from a New Yorker. It had less than 80,000 miles. I had the cylinders honed, the decks cot .010, then installed the cleaned up parts with new rings, bearings and gaskets. Upon the advice of Dick Landy, I had the 452 heads rebuilt and milled .050. The compression was supposed to be in the 9.2 range. I used a 280/474 MP cam, Edelbrock RPM intake and a Holley 750.
This was the first 440 I had in the Charger. It ran great and never knocked! Decent power, decent fuel economy and a lot less frustration!
