Sheesh, 3+ years and not much progress in my '64, and with the way thingsa re going, not any chance of pregressing in the near future.

Kinda thinking of just selling the whole ball of wax and looking for something driveable.

the car is question is in this thread:
http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=71800

Car is on a rotisserie right now, completely stripped. Fenders are in great condition, hood is good, trunk lid fair, but have another for it. Both inner fenders replaced(old ones hacked for fenderwell headers). Have an 8-3/4 3.23 sure grip. Full assemblies to convert front to disc brakes. 2 k-frames, standard and one that came with lca's and sway bar installed. Engine is a 340 out of a 70 Duster, tranny is A833 4spd. have seats(need redone) floor pans have some home made patches from former owner(not bad, but would replace with new ones), underbody very good, one perf on trunk extension, other was cut but spray foamed(sheesh) need piece fabricated. Rear is dented between the lights(have new piece all the way thru valance) All body parts there and in very good shape.

Now my question, what can I expect to get for it in present condition?

I absolutely will NOT part it out, it is in too good of condtion to hack up, hell, it's a nearly 50 yr old piece of history.

Not sure if selling it is the route I want to go, but just may go that route if I can't make any progress on it in the forseeable future.

3 years isn't unheard of doing what your doing, I have seen cars take ten years to do, not to discourage you by that statement.

You're that far in, if it were me I would have a hard time giving up now.

Stay at it, the reward when you are done will far outweigh the feeling you have now.

Just my two pennies.

..............I find that the older I get the less ambition I have, I've sold a few to and now wish I hadn't, heck I got 1 race car that hasn't been raced since 06, and my 40,000 mile street car only has made 600 miles in 4 years........kim.......

Dear Fst,
Don't give up!! Like was just said, a lot of us have been working on our cars a little at a time. I have had my 66 Barracuda for 6 or 7 years now. I got sick almost 5 years ago. It has been very slow going since then. I still enjoy doing the work. If I have something that's not going well, I just walk away for a couple of days. Being on disability and some retirement means the toy budget is very small. So what? I has in a coma for 12 days. So I sort of had to relearn some stuff. As a result I take a little extra pride in each little piece I finish. If you get to feeling a little down, sign on and tell us what you are up to, car, family, or a joke .

guess part of it is I'm kinda down right now, my son-in-law accepted a new job on Friday, and now, instead of being able to stop on the way home and see my daughter and my grandkids, it's going to be 3-4 hrs one way. I WILL spend some weekends out there, and that is going to lessen an already miniscule piece of the time pie allotted to the car. I look at the car, and want to work on it, but have no drive whatsoever right now. I mean, it's a shell with old paint(said stripped in first post, but meant stripped of all parts). It's a monumental task, and I want it done yesterday....and I have no friends around here that share the interest. My niece's husband is a gear head, but lives in California.....he's said, if he was nearby, he'd be over here 3 or 4 days a week getting my no longer as fat as it used to be *** out to the garage and busting hump on the car.

Sheesh

I agree if it's not costing you money or stress to keep it then, keep it. Sorry about the family moving away. At least you can still see them regularly since they are not too far away.

Well, good luck with whatever you decide, FF. Me too, I know that frustration. But y'know.....3 years ain't nuthin'. Just sit on it for a while, OR....force yourself to do small tasks on the car. Tiny goals per week.

OR......sell it! If I had it to do all over again, I may not have taken my '69 dart all the way down to a rotisserie level. Time is precious and not being able to enjoy and drive a classic car for years on end sucks. I've gotten to start living more "in the present".

Fst I have a suggestion, there are a lot of members here in your area. Why not have a work party? set it up with a cook out drinks like soda and ice tea or have members bring their wives with pot luck and see what you can get done in a week end.

Lil update.

My niece and her husband are coming to the 'Burg from their home in California over Christmas. He contacted me and said he'd like to spend a day working on the Barracuda, with me, while he is in. We have set up the day after Christmas to spend in the garage(now I have to find some heat) working on the car. I gave myself a Christmas present yesterday, ordering the rear floor pan sections, something I have put off for far too long. Also going to call my local powder coater and see if I can drop off the rear end, k-frame, and maybe some front end parts to get them heading towards being coated.

Like I stated, I have to find a way to heat up the garage, now. It's a detached garage, and when it is 25 degrees outside, the garage feels like 25 below. I have a ceramic disc heater, and I have one or two oil filled radiator style heaters, may set up a fan blowing over the radiators to circulate the heat, as much as it will.

Maybe this will be the jump start that gets me back to working on it...no way it sees the road for its 50th birthday this coming year, though, just too much to do on it.

FF

UPS just dropped these off.

Quick question:

The car as it sits has home made patches riveted in on both sides in the rear, and on the passenger side front, floor pans.

I plan on removing the rivetted patches, getting some measurements, and cutting the replacements and floor pan and welding them in...does that sound reasonable, I don't need to replace the complete panel, the holes are about 6" by a foot, so "i was going to cut the replacement piece from the new ones a bit bigger than the hole, overlay it, mark it, cut the car floor to accomodate the patch, then do the welding.

any other suggestions or does this sound spot on

Thanks

FF

Want motivation look at my build thread. I started about 3 years ago. Really have no car minded friends to turn to. Learning process all the way. Ive basically done everything myself. It is hard to motivate yourself. Instead of looking at it like its a whole car focus on sections. Break it down into simple things and next thing you know you will be on that section till its done. Either it be suspension, body and paint get one area done then move on. I found that if I looked at it like a whole car it was more daunting and I got depressed real quick. It gets lonely out there. Heck sometimes im even willing to allow my 3 year old out there just to have some company. Keep going make a list of things that need done and start checking them off one by one.

I totally agree. Its like eating a whole elephant. It can be done, but only in small increments. I wish i had the time to go out in the shop and work on my project. I have no time right now, but i have a parts list, and i am slowly rounding up everything i need. When i have time i do work on it, but one small project at a time till its done, then move to the next project etc. making a list and working from it is a good idea too.

Hope this helps
Matt

I started the tear down on this car ten years ago with intentions of about a three year completion and it's looked like you see it here for about five years now. Sometimes a full year will go by with little to no work getting done at all due to work, school, life, etc. The way I see it, the car will be here when I get to it. I WILL finish this car, I just can't put a definite timeline on it. Just work on it at your own pace and don't stress on how long it takes to get it done. Your work looks good, don't compromise that just to get it done fast. Take your time and do it right ONCE!! Hang in there!!:burnout:

Need to try and find some friends in the area that like cars

Are there any car clubs? Good place to find car friends

I do have some car friends in your area, so I know they are there.

My car was down for 10 YEARS, taking a car apart is easy, getting it back together is TOUGH. there were times I thought, WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING?

Well here is what I done

View attachment image.jpg

Have owned the car 20 years, drove it for about 2 years, took it apart and about 10 years later it was drivable, but doubt it will ever be done.

Good luck and don't give up. Try and do one thing a day, week or whatever time frame you choose, but do something, it a short time you will get motivated to do more. Kind of addictive once you get started and see progress

For heat, maybe you could rent a heater or borrow one from a friend. I use to use salamander heater, yeah they are noisy and create fumes, but if you don't run too long they work good. I still have mine that I used as a kid working on my 67 Barracuda in high school.

I plan on going tomorrow and ordering an electric heater for my garage, 5000 watt 220 volt. Used one like it that a buddy let me borrow and it heated my 440 sq ft garage very well. Would cycle off and I was working in sweat pants and shirt. ( no jeans or buttons when working on my car since it was painted)
