I have had this car a really long time, it is a factory yellow car with a leaning tower of power. I have had it down for resto for a crap load of years and its amazing how time just flys out the window.
I was getting ready to say screw it and sell it but the problem is projects are never worth what you have into them.
A multilateral desicion has been reached and the solution is now clearly seen as to what to do with this car.
I bought it many many moons ago and it has gone through the ranks of my siblings here and my dear ol cousin drove it for awhile till it had an electrical fit and was abandoned behind the barn.
My dear ol cousin is a fresh Graduate and has more time than me so i am sayin screw it and passing the torch on to my dear ol cousin to finish the job.
I dont envy my dear ol cousin because the driver side quarter is screwed; the car was kissed long ago and some fuzz nuts body shop did a very poor job and it rotted under the body work.
Also, despite its top banana heritage the old lady I bought it from had it sprayed white in a poor Maaco job from the 80s.

I was never into the allure of the internet but my dear ol cousin has had a ton of fun here.

So here it is, my official pass the torch on a project. I have done a lot of work so far but I dont have time to screw with it anymore, so here we will see dear ol cousin bring it back

i got the engine in the process of clean up and re-paint today

and the cat likes the new project.

subscribed, looks good so far rani, that quarter panel came out nice!

i like the color also...........my car is r1 yellow...........is that what color code that is?

nice project guys.........i'll be checking in here and there to see the progress, keep her on it james, i want to ride in it by this summer.........lol.

this one is Y1 Top Banana. I was calling it lemon twist but I stand corrected that it is Top Banana in 1972, geez you learn something new everyday.

I got just the thing for Rani today, a time clock. She is getting paid for this whether she likes it or not because I am pulling her away from her car, Plus I am getting excited to get my car back. I have a lot of sentimental value into this ride. LOL

time to make some pretty bright blue light again :D

i got it down to a shell and i am going to subframe connectors before anything else......to me it only makes sense that the subframe connectors should go on when the car is a shell because that is how the factory would have done it .....they would have installed them as the floor sections were coming together.

many people say to do subframe connectors last but it dont makes sense to me after your interior is done and everything is painted up....but each to their own ...i am about to find out how it goes with this car.

nah i posted a pic of my weld and its not good so i started feeling shame and got rid of the pic ....but another member told me the problem is not enough heat .....and i think the reason is because i have the welder on an extension cord and that is killing the power ...i mean like 10 foot garage cord......

so tomorrow i am going to clear the garage to get right on top of the electrical outlet and see if that helps .....i know this welder can do it ...it has before but that extension cord is killing it. and right now the outlet is blocked so im forced to use the cord until tomorrow i will clear the stuff blocking the outlet.
 
ground down the old weld and prepped it and tried it again

your approval means that my welder is ok after all ....dang i learned my lesson about extension cords ....they dont belong here.

i spent all day yesterday clearing a good work space with an outlet right there so now i dont need a cord and can plug in to the wall.....plus a few feet away is a 220 plug in for when i get my stick welder in a few weeks

plus i moved the car closer too.

Judging by the looks of that extension cord, I'm surprised it didn't get hot and melt! Nice welds though.

Oh, and the cat needs food! :p
 
I know your working on a tight budget Rani but the extra elbow grease your putting in shows, nice work and now I plan on watching your build so keep on sharing!
 
That looks like too much work. You should probably just give me the car for parts. But keep the extension cord.
 
the subframe connector job has been more straight forward than I though it would be. I ran into a small snag on the driver side front rail because it is not flat. it had a bulge to it to reinforce the area where the E--brake cable comes through.....so I had to make a "T" cut and collapse the bulge into the curf to make it a flat surface to weld the driver side S connector on.

I ground all the undercoating off where the welds were going to be and applied copper weld through primer. Also primers inside the subframe connector pieces and undercoated the top where it is against the floor panel.

I didn't do the "wings" on the rear sections like the US car tools connectors you buy only because the torque boxes are coming next and they will on what is there now on the rear part of the connectors

thanks, and Yellow is a truly awesome color for a car IMO ....my favorite color in fact.....one thing that was cool about this car is behind the back seat is the factory marks that I need to preserve with the paint code that someone on the assembly line marked with a grease pencil.

one cool and unique thing about 72 340 was the air cleaner ...scored this one from a FABO member and it definitely found a home in this car.

also if you have not gathered by now.....the slant six is being saved for another project, this car is now a 340 build. the 340 I have is a 71, so close enough even though I am trying to get everything 72...as much as possible without going crazy.

Yes, I think the Y1 yellow is the best color. (I am a little bias)
It just makes the car look like it is going fast even when it is standing still. :burnout:
