Diabetic folks

....being an odd duck, I am a type 2 as well but I am insulin dependent.

A lot of good info in the previous posts. I cannot exercise so I too add a bit more insulin for the odd piece of pecan pie :)

We use different numbers up here I see...to be in the zone, you are between 3.6 and 6.7.

Some foods that you think are safe, are really bad for the blood sugar like the rice crisps.

..back years ago,I was on pills..eating correctly and exercising ..I was just about ready to go off the pills when the pills no longer worked..hence the more to insulin..

Cannot remember if mentioned but the body goes into sugar production about 3 am ..

BTW, most type IIs can tell if they are over or under.. when I am over, I just get sleepy...big problems if I go under..

Hope I have added something useful..

The numbers you mentioned, are they your daily "stick your finger" numbers or are they the long term blood test numbers? The a1l or whatever it is called? Past few nights Ernie has been zonked out in her chair, when she tests her sugar, the finger poking test, it is up around 170 or so. Her doc wants these numbers to be right around 100.

Question, I realize you said you are unable to exercise, might I ask why? And will diet alone be enough to control things, or does one NEED to exercise? I am of the understanding that exercise is a gigantic help, in regards to a diabetic.

Exercise has helped me tremendously, in regards to all my mental health issues. If I had not been on the treadmill/elliptical I would have exploded last night, way worse then I did. As bad as the racing thoughts are, and the voices I hear CONSTANTLY, the thoughts have slowed down some and the voices are a bit quieter than prior to exercise. My head doc has told me about the 21 day rule.....that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. I doubted him at first. But anymore if I miss a day here or there of exercise it really pisses me off.
