This is my progress on my shift kit installation. My goal is firmer upshift than stock. So I have only drilled the hole in the separator plate like this: A .110" B .086" C .110" D .125". I thought it is easier to make bigger hole than smaller afterward.

In the last picture it shows how to drill out the wall. Will the upshift be to firm if I remove the wall and keep the ball? Or would it be necessary to get some firmer upshift like my goal is? Or will it be enough to just leave the wall and install the other parts in the kit?

Thanks FABO

It will firm up the 1-2 shift some by removing the wall. I do it to all of them I do and I haven't had a complaint yet that it's too firm. Good idea not drilling the holes to the max.

On your 6th picture down it shows grinding down the TV valve, I suggest not doing that. Seems like every one I ground down I had a hard time getting the trans to kickdown when put to the floor. Instead of grinding down the valve I adjust the throttle pressure linkage a little looser to tailor the shifting and kickdown to the speeds I like. It accomplishes the same thing but gives you more adjustment

Thanks fishy68 for the advice and info on removing "the wall".

I have already grind down the TV valve so it's too late. If I get a problem with the trans not kickingdown, then I have to look for a replacement TV valve and do as you explain.

Here are some pictures of the final installation.

Here are some control measurements to make sure everything is OK. With the throttle lever touching the stop you should have a 3/16 gap between the lever and TV valve. You can use the 3/16 drill which is included in the kit to check the gap.

When the manual lever is all the way out, measure the distance between the manual lever and the pressure adjustment screw. And it should be 1 7/8".

My pressure regulator retainer has a dimple and it can't be set flush as instructions. I adjusted the spring seat until it was equal on both side.

Thanks FABO

Looks good. Should do you fine. As for not being able to get the regulator adjustment exactly flush it'll increase the line pressure just a little bit but I don't think it'll be a problem.

Nice job following the instructions. Just make sure the band adjustments are correct or you will have ( Overlap / tie-up ) it feels like a hard shift but its actually two ranges fighting each other. IE: One comes on before the other gear releases. Clutch timing is everything :)

Digging up his old thread has helped me with installing the TF2 kit in my 727 valve body and I have a guestion regarding a check ball in the upper aluminum body.

Do I need to do anything with this check ball I can’t seem to find any info on it.View attachment 1715146091View attachment 1715146092

On the lower body where the passage was drilled do I delete the check ball in this location?

TF1 tow-or-go
TF2 Competition
TF3 Stick Shift; must be manually shifted

In your first picture, my instructions say for TF2 and TF3, do not reinstall this ball
In the last picture, my instruction manual says if you have a ball there, discard it

I have a tf2 kit, My instructions do not discuss this ball, and yours say to discard.
Dilemma..

If you have a TF-2 the ball you are pointing to in the channel casting stays in, & where you drilled out the wall with the TransGo template the ball is left out for a firm 1-2. shift

Thanks Kickdown I could not find any info about that one..

You're welcome. I'll see if I can come up with some TransGo info for you later. I'm just off to my workshop after I finish my coffee. Stay tuned.

OK as promised, a bit of info you may have missed in the installation instructions.

You can discard this ball if you have a high stall converter. Otherwise leave it in place. The ball regulates fluid to the forward clutch to provide a smooth engagement when shifting from P or N into ay forward range.

I am using a 3000 stall, I am not sure if that qualifies or not.. Probably could leave it either way
