First track run - less than exciting....

Hey Mal

I'll try to explain . The double pump Holley has two accelorator pumps and four nozzles , 'one for each barrel' , and each is adjustable for duration and volume . So there is a lot that can be done to cover that lean bog when the pedal is smashed to the floor and the slicks bite the track .

The Carter only has an accelerator pump for the primarys

This pretty much sums it up. Another thing to think about is fuel distribution with 1 carb centrally located on such a large plenum it takes longer for fuel to travel to each of the further away port runners.

Heres what the smartest guy on carbs had to say about running a single carb on a single plenum TR:

When ever I see a setup like that there is not much going on power wise in the outboard cylinders. The angle of the roof is way too steep for the correct flow of air and the fuel to go with it. Twin carby it and there will be zero issues with that stuff. What happens is exhaust reversion builds up in the corners, and depending on the firing order and cam selection as to how serious it gets. It usually shows up at idle and the immediate response parts of driving, once its underway its OK but its still lost time on the strip because the engine has to recover from idling. It takes up to 4 seconds for a small plenum engine to recover a contaminated manifold to fresh air again. Seen it do that many times.

Thats why i recommended using 2 carters on that set up on a previous post.

Hope this helps
