Yes this is a system based on a fairly high definition CC camera @ 720 lines. It has a Zero Lux IR chip and responds to LWIR sources.
Long-wave infrared (LWIR) cameras, sometimes called "far infrared", operate at 8 to 12 μm, and can see heat sources, such as hot engine parts or human body heat, a few miles away.
I’m using 840nm & 970nm sources. And in stead of spending tens of thousands of dollars, its an under $300 toy.
As far as usefulness goes we shall see.
In the meantime here are some pics of the progress.

then I made one out of stainless and will cut a lens to go inside the enclosure.
