Putting the car on a diet

-
Just picked up a stock 425 hp LS2 engine and T56 six speed for a project, combined weight is 628 lbs in comparison to the 725 lbs for the 360 and 727 it will replace.

Complete car will weigh in at around 2500 lbs with full interior and A/C as well as a sound system to die for..

Do you have a inner bumper support that follows the length of it? If so you might be able to make a new piece out of aluminum or cut out what you don't need. Downside is less protection in a accident.

Contact Hemidenny for that aluminum K frame

Good info, on the K member. I'd like to see what he's got.

No reinforcement bar, Cliff. This is for the Charger.

I'm not certain that the bumper would do much in an accident, anyway. Not really worried about it. It won't see enough driving for me to really have any concern for serious safety. It will see some driving, but not in high traffic hours.

Why would you put a 265 in a slant 6 car and are worried about originality?
Had me going there for awhile........
I think the fix is in.

Sorry buddy, I thought we were taking A bodies...LOL, in truth, I didn't know for sure that it was available for any body style.

Id be very interested in knowing what the difference between the 2 actually is. If it's only width it could be modded to fit but with that price tag i'd be hard pressed to cut one up.

lol...

It's a 318 car. Actually, I'm not really concerned about originality to the car, so much as I'd like to keep the car as era correct appearing as I can. I don't mind modding it to the moon, even if it's new technology, as long as it doesn't take away from the age of the car's appearance.

Wow, those guys took it to a level that I don't know I'd be going to. Pretty slick.

If you've got two original K members or cars to measure, you could check.

I've got a spare K that I'm going to use for a suspension swap, when I rebuild the front end on the Scamp. I could pattern it.

If I got the material for this K member and it turns out nice, I wouldn't mind building a jig to make factory appearing aluminum K members for an A body.

It looks like XV does make a few things for the A body.

The B body aluminum K member looks like it's sold with their Level II front suspension as an entire coil over, dual wishbone kit.

$5500 for it. I've got to admit, that is extremely tempting, even though it doesn't look close to original equipment. Power rack and pinion steering...

It doesn't say on their website, what kind of weight advantages you see, over an original system, but it's still amazing. Aluminum double wishbone rack and pinion...

I'm not terribly concerned about handling, though. I know it will improve drastically, but that wouldn't be the reason I'd want it. I'm not going to obliterate this car around curves. I've got smaller cars for that.

I'd call XV. For 550 they should be willing to make you an a body setup. I doubt it's that much work on their end and then they can mass market it.

It's getting a 265.

WAHAHAHAHA.

I could toss the idea for a slant, I suppose, but I can't get as much out of a slant as I can out of that 265, comfortably.

I've seen some slants pushing 350, but I've never seen any pushing 500.

I still haven't bailed on the torsion bar and aluminum K member idea, but I do like that dual alum. wishbone front end that is adjustable ride height, the more I look at it.
