I thought I would share this with the group, its the story about how I got my very first Mopar....actually, it was my very first car.

I started my search for an old Mopar when I was 16 years old, I remember looking at a 1971 Satellite with a 440 that some older kid in my area had, it was painted yellow over blue, and under the hood was black....but it had mag rims and a 440 and I thought it was cool....but it was a bondo buggy...so that one was quickly passed on. My dad and I looked at a few other Mopars, the other that stuck out in my mind I really wanted was a 1970 Duster for sale at a local Mopar show here in Minnesota...it was a 340 4-speed and painted Plumb crazy purple....not really nice but I liked it. I went and found my dad and told him to come look at this car and talk to the guy. We got there and I could see dad didn't like it....after a few minutes he said "no!" The car was a little rusty, had bondo and was a rat mobile but I wanted it cause it had a 340 and I knew they were hot little engines.....didn't matter, I was 16 and dad was the boss and said no..."we'll find a better

Well, after that I was pretty bummed out and bitter, I liked that Duster...went the next 2 months without finding anything else (that dad liked) LOL for me to buy so we kept on looking. Well, one day while working with dad we were driving across town and seen a Satellite sitting at a chiropractors office with a For Sale sing in the window.....dad said "want to stop?"....I said "NO!"....but he turned around anyway to look (I stayed inside the truck and was crabby) and then he went inside to find the seller who was waiting in the waiting room for his appointment. He came out with a phone number and said we should look at it more tonight and take it for a spin. I wasn't very excited....it was a big brown B-Body car and I wanted an A-Body car....but I said "fine, lets go" and we left later that evening.

As we were on the way I was actually getting a little excited but didn't show it.....dad must have liked the car so I thought that this might actually work out. We drove about a half hour out to a small town where the seller lived....looked it over real good (I don't think we ever test drove it) it was a 1974 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus with a 318, all stock. The guy needed money cause he hurt his back...the car had 85K original miles and a newer paint job....he hated to sell it but it had to go. I can't remember the original asking price....but dad offered him $1600 cash for it, the seller said $1700.....dad dug in his wallet and he had another $50 and the deal was
made for $1650 :glasses7:

I can still remember the feeling to this very day how it was to drive home my very first Mopar...the sun was beginning to set and I was cruising home in my own car......so many memories in it, lots of money spent over the years on upgrades, like a 340 the next year....also lots of blood, sweat, and many tears...I really learned a lot about cars working on this car. Over time it really grew on me, it was my high school car too...and I still own it to this very day!!!

I love this car and hope to pass it on to my kids someday.....its not just a car but a member of the family :glasses7:

I bought this car just over 20 years ago, the first picture was taken after I entered it in a Mopar show here in the project class...yes that's me on the fender, skinny punk lmao!!! BTW...I wanted a car so bad that even before I had a car I bought a set of Rallye rims and restored them a few months earlier.....those are the rims pictures on the car with me.

The car had had many changes over the years, it was a driver for awhile but never winter driven by me, I hope to do a full resto someday on it. About 5 years after I bought the car, I was putting gas in it and this other guy was looking at it and said it sounded mean...he asked if I had bought it from a guy named "Larry" I said "yes I did" and the guy then said "man, if he seen this car he would cry, he absolutely hated selling his old car!"

If you are still here reading this, I apologize that it's not an A-Body car but its my first Mopar and I am very proud of it :glasses7: It needs some TLC but still has sex appeal, the ladies really love this car :D So here are some pictures, more recent ones are posted later. BTW, my dad is a member here and goes by "FISHYPETE" (he still has his first car, a 1966 Cuda Formula S) I would like to thank him for not listening to me and stopping to look at this sweet sweet B-Body ride, thank's Dad :burnout:

Great story, Keith. I personally love that car, with the slots on it. Love B bodies too.My first was a 69 Road Runner, ratty hulk.

What a great time in your life Keith, and thank you for sharing this story
Your dad FISHYPETE new what he wanted his young gun son to drive and just
look at it today :thumbrig: Safe driver for a first car that has class and style :king: I have always liked the 73 and 74 Satellite/Roadruners, my brother had a 73 about the same color and same top.
but he had a bench seat car and drove the wheels off of it and kept the factory hub caps on it the 4 or 5 years he owned it :coffee2: 318 a/c car. I bet he waxed that car every week if he could :color: Congratulations Keith :happy10: It's a keeper for sure, Dad dun good :idea1: as did you for keeping it for so many years
I enjoyed the look back in time :coffee2:

proof that parents usually know better than 16 year old kids......I look back at myself at 16 and think "wow, what a stupid little girl"...good thing I had very good guidance like you did. :glasses7:

your Dad wasn't trying to hurt you, and it payed off with a sweet looking car......besides it has bucket seats so what was your deal, couldn't be any more boring than a slant six fury :-s

its a B-body so there is plenty of room under the hood ....maybe someday a 440 will find its way in there :joker:

I remember "our" first car....a 73 Satellite Sebring Plus!! I say our because my brother actually inherited it from the folks! We beat the living crap out of that car and when it finally came down to me, it was little more than a high school auto shop project! I think it finally got junked at our next door neighbors junk yard!! Might still be back there....somewhere!!! Geof

Hey now...I have a slant 6 Fury! LOL

Awesome story. My dad always says his buddy had a 73 RoadRunner with a 318 in High School. Got kicked out of the parking lot on the last day of school senior year for doing burnouts with it. Had a whole parade of guys doing burnouts. He just rode in the RR, don't think his slant could light 'em up too well, lol.

Great story.
I had a '73 Road Runner that was a 400 4 speed yellow with black stripes and dealer installed air. I wish i still had it, but i gave up on it. I sold it back in 1983 to put a 440 in my '69 Super Bee. I still have a soft spot for them, they are cool cars......

My first car was a 1974 Satellite painted birth control beige. It had 5 spoke cragers and a 225 engine. It also introduced me to old Mopars. Jayson

Thanks for sharing. I love stories like this. It doesn't matter if its not an A body. I've owned more B bodies then anything else. I wish I kept my first car.

Sorry, the 340 has great power, even for being a heavy car.....the 3500 stall and 3.91 gears help too :D Besides, I have beat a 440 car with this little 340 a couple times :glasses7:

Hey now...I have a slant 6 Fury! LOL

And a cool one at that....UNRESTORED

Traded my '72 Duster, for a '73 Satellite Sebring Plus. Red, black vinyl top, black bucket seat console car. Wish I still had both of them.

Great story Keith. Dad's know best! lol

Cool story Keith.I love all yours and Pete,s cars.FishyPete sure knows how to look after his son/cars.:D

Hey Keith!

Thanks for sharing the great stories. Really nice first car! Way cool to have a Dad who is into cars and could direct you into such a nice first ride.

Really enjoying all the pictures of the cars! Very sweet Mopar treats...

Cool story, Keith! I just wish I had a picture of my first car let alone still had it. It was a 72 Charger 383 magnum car. I do have a couple pictures of my second car though, a 1975 Plymouth Fury (two door) I loved that car! Oh, the memories.............................

Great story. Understand how you may have felt. Some of the old Plymouths had front ends that should have had the stylist fired(59, 61, 62, 73, 74). Wait, Exner did get fired for the 61 & 62 models.
