1969 Swinger 340

great car ralphie. i wonder if it was my dads old one. we used to live in st marys/celina area and he own a 69 swinger 340 T5 with black interior, he also had side pipes on his is there any clues to see if there was side pipes mounted to yours?
 
Thanks guys, I'm going to start unpacking the car tonight so I can work on it again! I haven't seen any remnants of side pipe mounts on it, I bought the car out of southern Illinois, so if it is your dads it took a little trip. It is definitely rusty like an Ohio car!
 
Ok, I never really left, but between moving and finishing my degree, I have not been on here in forever. I have made some progress on the car a little bit at a time, but when I add it up over the last six months or so, it really is coming together. A lot of work to go, but I (hopefully) graduate in a week, so it should make some progress now!

Man I love the picture of the car with the green door and orange fender.

My dart was originally that green color and had been painted orange when I bought it in 1981.

That picture brought back a lot memories.

That's awesome! I love the original Direct Connection plate on the front, I have a repro I run on my cars, in 1981 I was a year old! Thanks for the kind words, this is my first a body and I can't wait to get it on the road.
 
69 Swingers are AWESOME, and it's COOL that you are thinking OUTSIDE OF THE BOX with your build. I love the T5 copper, are you going to keep the original Color ?
 
Good for you,sticking with the T5! Dont see often,which is why I am sticking with it as well.

I was going to stay with the T5 copper when I started, but when I went to mix the paint ppg didn't have a formula for T5 in the cheap paint. I was already on the fence between T5 and toxic orange, so when it was $400 a gallon vs. $150, it made my mind up! Its a 2011 Dodge color toxic orange, and it is similar enough to the original, but gives it a modern pop. If I hate it I guess I'll sand it off and start over!
 
Well with this old monitor it's hard to tell true color,but it looks pretty close from my end.
 
I'm just north of Dayton, so not too far from your area Alex. I want to check out the ohio mile this year, is Wilmington close?
 
Got to work on the car for a few hours yesterday, got the clutch master, line and slave plumbed up.

Wilmington is only around 45 minutes from you, maybe an hour and 45 for me. I planned on going last year, but it was hard to make longer trips with my son being so little. He'll be 2 in March, so chances are a little better this year. Not sure how exciting it'll be as a spectator, but it's definitely one of those events I need to cross off the bucket list!
 
A little progress tonight, got the idler, pitman, center link and tie rods on.

I guess it's time to start tackling the wire harness for this beast, I stripped the loom off of the 06 commander harness I have, and started seriously looking at schematics last night. If you don't hear from me for a while, you'll know why:-/
 
The wire harness wasn't nearly as hard as I had made it out to be in my head, now it is all sorted and marked ready to integrate into the original. I was able to take out the auto trans, mds, and egr circuits first, then I just went down the list on the connector pinout and either marked them or eliminated as needed. Now I need to make sure my 69 harness is actually in workable condition!

what brand paint did you use? what was color code? if you don't mind me asking, Looks good. Maybe I can get back to work on mine. Ok I see it's 2011 toxic orange.
 
Thanks! I used PPG's Omni Plus (their "better" cheap line paint) and I am pretty happy with the color quality of it. I used some USC clear that I had left over from some other project, it lays out nice, but I will probably use a better clear when I go to paint the rest of the car.
 
I got the rats nest of wires hooked up and integrated into the car, and it cranks over and powers up a generic code reader from the DLC. Just waiting on my flashed pcm and then I can test my "handiwork"! For now I will use an air pressurized fuel injector cleaner filled with plain gasoline to test fire it, but it may not be long until I hear it rumble! That is assuming I got the wire harness close to correct!
