I just got some head rests that are in beautiful shape but hard . Is there something I can put on them to soften them up. I'm afraid they're going to crack when they get cold Jim

I treat vinyl and leather like skin. Only cleaner I use on either is the crème type Gojo hand cleaner with lanolin in it. Am I saying I would use a similar hand lotion on the headrests ? yep
Keep in mind that the only proof I have of my success is a OEM 67 dash pad.
It's not shinny as if it had armorall on it but it isn't brittle either.
Also note, This is a periodic treatment over the years as protective measure and not a hale Mary effort/effect like you're looking for.

Black Box Marine Grade Vinyl & Plastic ReNu

Just looked a bunch up and found very little that claimed to actually soften and such. The above claim to soften the vinyl.

Vinyl is petroleum based so soaking with an oily solvent would make sense.

Some folks claim that a thick coat of mineral oil and let soak worked well.

whats the stuff called the guy on fast and loud hand rubs into the leathers and vinyl? I think its called elephant grease

update that's what he calls it on the show its called elephant leather preserver

The elephant leather preserver is a purely synthetic, acid free leather wax and an ideal treatment for antique leathers plus leathers constantly exposed to harsh conditions. The wax has a strong waterpoofing action and prevents mildew growth, prevents threat-rot, revives faded dyes and gold embossing. A common treatment for older convertable cars with leather seats and leather seating and surfaces on boats, this formula has been used for many years by European museums for preserving and restoring stiff or old leather, hence the name of the product. Also can be used on quality handbags, suitcases, saddles and shoes.
