My 73 Duster/340 currently has TTI headers/exhaust (2.5") with the standard DynoMax Super Turbo mufflers. After driving the car, I have determined that performance mufflers are not for me (I didn't even look at them before ordering the system...oops!) and would like a quieter muffler.
Is anybody running a non performance muffler on the TTI system? What are good options to look at? I am planning on going to some local muffler shops and would like to have some idea what I am looking for before I go in.

Thanks!

Do you have factory style chrome tips or turn down? With turn downs you may have room for a resonator made from a dynomax race bullet or one of the small round magnaflow mufflers. That would quiet it down or you could try fitting a larger case muffler in place of the dynomax super turbos.

I have the chrome tips that TTI sells. The few mufflers I've looked at are larger, so I'm sure there will be some pipe modifications to fit.

Quieter ???? ****, I swapped the super turbo's out for some ultra flow welded mufflers. The super turbos were way to quiet for me, plus the car was very restricted with them on. Noticeable performance gain when I dumped the turbos ....

There's also a bit of a drone in the frequency that hurts my head :) Which is unfortunate since I dabble with a bass guitar.

Borla makes a real nice sounding muffler that only really let's you know it when you are on the pan. I'm thinking about running a set on my convertible because I'm getting old and the resonance on my flowmasters can get annoying.

Send VOE TOM a p.m. Not cheap, but honest. I am shocked, what you have isn't quiet enough. Voe,does this for a living. Considering ,the cam & mufflers, surprised.

That's exactly what I did. I sent him a PM asking for a muffler recommendation and the next thing you know, Tom is building me a pair of mufflers. He doesn't do them for a living, I think he just needed a winter project and I ended up at his doorstep! Here's the thread.

I went thru a journey with drone with my 67 GTS. After the engine rebuild with a milder cam close to stock I got a brain rattling drone. Same exhaust system as before. Tried Magnaflow, Dynomax Turbo and finally Dynomax VT which are suppose to be drone free but only decreased the drone 12db. I had to finally install branch resonators and that took care of the drone. There's a thread here on journey and how I did it.. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=202506

I know flowmaster makes some real quiet mufflers as well. Still a somewhat performance muffler but might be the quiet sound ur looking for. Go on YouTube. Listen to sound bites. It's all personal preference.
Also an X pipe really tames down the exhaust note.

The whole personal preference thing is probably what's killing me on this, since I am weird like that :) . I'll check out some bits on youtube and see if anything strikes my fancy.

Buck, I did a search after I initially posted this thread (yes, there is a search function for a reason! :) ) and found the branch resonator thread. That seems really interesting and if non-performance mufflers don't fit my preference, then that will probably be an option I'll look at. I don't know that X-pipes will be in my future anytime soon since I don't have too much of a budget left at the moment.

Good luck on your search. I'll have to keep and eye out to see what you end up with for mufflers.

Install dyno-mat on floors and behind the rear seat over the cardboard separator and keep the mufflers you have. I am also putting it above the headliner. Keeps the tunes in and the exhaust noise out.

If you don't have the "mopar" tips,, they DO make quite an astonishing difference in the tone/drone, that is unique to mopar..

Perhaps try them first before spending $$ on mufflers.. and they enhance the look as well.. imho

hope it helps

If you want quiet...Drive the Camry.
TTI'S,340,It's a Muscle Car for crying out loud !!!
Let it breath !!!! :D
