Ugly Bastard.. 67 Barracuda Notch

If you think it would be easier to pull the engine and sit on the K member while replacing that seal be forewarned.... Pulling the engine for any reason can lead to front suspension rebuild, engine bay detail, and more.

That's funny....true....but funny! Thanx for the laugh! :D

2 ways to approach that trans fluid leak. If you have all the tools required to pull the trans, fine. That will likely get the ride back on the road sooner.

The front end was rebuilt prior to me buying it, but dropping it out is fine. I jus haven't ever done a front seal change before. Fairly simple?

Maybe take the trans to a transmission shop and have them change it for you.
Around here, they will do it for free if you buy the seal from them, and in the back of your pickup while you wait!
They have a special seal driver that they use.
It's not really that hard to do yourself if you are careful......
I would drive the car as is for awhile, it looks pretty cool.

Oh yes, this one will stay ugly for a while. Carmen calls it the 20 year project because this one will be done on more of a budget, unlike the Dart which I threw a lot of $$$ into.

Thanks for the tranny shop info!

i personally prefer a notch. wide wheels and tires. nose up, wide open..... hell yeah. and i also dig the tow vehicle. good candidate fo a rebuild. Lenny.

Ugly? No.
Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder!
You've seen my cars, now they're ugly compared to yours Mike.......

Bit of an update. Got the car up on jack stands in the shop to pull the tranny. Pulled the buckets, back seat, threw away the ratty carpet and underlay, pulled the console, and got rid of the crappy aftermarket radio someone had installed. Good thing the gauge cluster bezel is already broken near the glove box, because the bastards cut apart the bezel to fit the aftermarket radio. Anyways, the floor is worse than I thought. I have complete front pans from my 70 Duster parts car, as well as another solid floor to cut out of. Door panels are trashed. If anyone has any white door panels for a notch Cuda, let me know.

How does the converter snout look? I would take the trans to a shop and have them put a new bushing in the front pump. A lot of times it is this bushing that causes the seal to leak buy the play created by it.

Tackled the trunk today. Got the rotted pan cut out, and welded in a new one I had laying around. Still need to seam seal it, but it's one less thing to do.
Speaking of which, do you seam seal before or after you prime it?

Have a close look at those frame rails...the floor being so bad could be hiding worse.

Hey Mikey....me likey LOL. Ugly, never. My 67 dart is a favorite year 2nd is a 67 Notch Cuda. nevr seen this thread until now. Hey Mike, its out of the garage and was on the road even for a day. Mines been over 3years , one project and still in the garage..LOL. Im subscribed and looking forward to more. Awsome:cheers:

Thanks guys. The frame is solid, I've checked it over. The floor looks worse than it is. It's mostly scaling and surface rust, with some small holes here and there.

I filled in a few holes I had made from burning through, and then smoothed down the welds to match the new trunk pan to the old metal. I then seam sealed it, and primed it.

I drilled the spot welds on the rear valence because it was pretty rusty. I couldn't believe how many spot welds there were!

Both trunk extensions are rusty, but so are both quarters. I am going to cut out the trunk extensions, and since I don't have rust free ones, I'll just be welding in flat stock. I don't need the dips and ridges the factory ones have, I don't plan on having people looking inside the trunk.

I also had to do some repair work to the spring hanger, as it was looking a little scary. I figured I'd do that before cutting the trunk apart. That's just brown primer.

It's rough in spots, but there aren't any rust free Cuda's in my area to replace it. And even when they pop up, they're way overpriced. So, I'll work with what I have.

Looking good so far! Nice to see you saving it. I love the notch backs.. I'm in the same boat with fixing rust, which seams normal up here in Canada eh!

Beautiful green 70' Dart too BTW!!

Thanks! I'm taking pics with my cell which make it look rustier than it is. It's good practice for body work, amd now that I've got my 69 Dart 4 door for parts/sheet metal into the back yard, I'm golden.

Thanks for the compliment on the 70 Dart too!
