Ok. So I know I've had multiple posts like this b4 and I hope I haven't bored y'all with all the post with no results but depending on y'all's replies this may be the last one for awhile. I found this car on Craigslist a month or more ago and have been watching it. Kegan B also gave me a heads up on it last week (thanks Kegan). So, the car is complete, I've talked to the owner and he said other than the lower quarters the car is super solid, all the parts come with including original slant, 318, 2 sets of cragers, all the nuts n bolts, etc. he said other than the front seat needing reupholstered the interior is in great shape, grill, lights, etc. are in great shape. The reason he's selling is he needs money for college and is asking $1,500 for everything.

Now, I don't have the money at the moment so I would have to get a personal loan to get it. That being said, I do have 2 secondary incomes, parting cars (not selling much atm but have one that can go to scrap) and my wife and I give plasma which generates $100-200 a month (depending how often we go) so, with these 2 incomes I could make the $50-100 a month payments and not take a cent out of our main incomes. So with all these things in mind, what do y'all think? My wife said if its a good deal its up to me if I wanna get the money or not. So now it's all on y'all! ;) is this as great a deal as I personally think it is and should I get the money??

( sorry such a long thread, hope I didn't bore or give anyone a headache. Lol)

Muscle cars can become money pits. I would say pass if you don't have cash to buy you will never have cash to fix. :banghead:

X3, take care of yourself and wife. These toys will always be around, just save up and one will pop up, possibly even better. Patience is a virtue.

No-you really need to get your priorities straight.15 months at the least paying on something that will make you nothing until you put a bunch more into it.Im sure your wife has some reservations on this,5-6 months down the road you may have to sell it or you may hit the lottery-which is the better chance? This is mainly a hobby and you don't depend on a hobby for a living.Just my two cents-Good luck either way you go!

Let's say the car is all he says, what would be my biggest expense? I'm guessing paint, right? I wouldn't be going for a show car, just a nice, good running driver. I've got a buddy who will paint a car for me for $175 if I buy the paint and help with the prep work. I like I said I part cars and have a complete bbp swap, super six setup, rads, tires, wheels, etc.

Here's one of my best friends truck that he painted

Wouldn't be lookin at usin it as a living. I part cars and we give plasma so we have personal spending money.

Stay away untill you have cash these old cars are money pitts like already mentioned.

Since you are asking that says that this is not something you are familiar with and that you have made up your mind. The"spray" part is the easiest and least time consuming.Check out the paint and body work threads on here but truthfully if you have done no body work up to this point you might need a LOT of help

I see a car that needs lower quarters and trunk extensions on both sides. The trunk itself can't be that much better. You will have lots more $$$ into this car than you think. Motors/tranny out of the car? Did you hear them run? You would have to go over and maybe replace every system on this car - brakes, exhaust, tires, etc. etc.
How about saving up that money you would use to buy this, and in a year or two you will have that money plus you could get a loan then. I know this is not what you want to hear, but if I were you I would pass.

In you situation, run away.
Save the $1500 up in cash, after you see how long that takes, then consider an old car project.
I paid $800 for the duster in my avator, running, driving 318 auto with duel exhaust, not rusty but wore out.
I seen it sitting in a guys yard for months, and one day decided to stop, should have kept driving past it, and let somebody else deal with the money pit.

As long as you can afford it with your "extra" money why not? You can also sell the extra engine(s) and make some money back.

Don't put yourself in debt for A toy! Body work itself will not be cheap unless you or your buddy can do it. Then if your buddy can paint it for 175 bucks plus you help and pay for the supplies. It will still cost you out the rear end to do it with good quality materials.

This is NOT a smokin hot deal

ONLY for something that was TERRIFICALLY underpriced would you go in debt for a project.

Save up and look for a deal. Paying interest on an "average" priced long term project is VERY ill advised.

Now, I don't have the money at the moment

Red flag #1. Don't you think that might be a problem?

so I would have to get a personal loan to get it.

Red flag #2. See #1.

That being said, I do have 2 secondary incomes, parting cars (not selling much atm but have one that can go to scrap) and my wife and I give plasma which generates $100-200 a month (depending how often we go)

Red flag #3. You count parting/scrapping old cars and giving blood as income? Do you think a bank would? Are you out of your mind?

so, with these 2 incomes I could make the $50-100 a month payments and not take a cent out of our main incomes.

Good luck with that. What kind of loan do you think you're getting from a bank? Ever hear of interest?

So with all these things in mind, what do y'all think? My wife said if its a good deal its up to me if I wanna get the money or not. So now it's all on y'all! ;) is this as great a deal as I personally think it is and should I get the money??

No. Figure out what money is first. Real money. Then, learn how to get enough of it to fix the car up properly.

From the looks of it, the car needs a total restoration. I'd bet every piece of rubber on that car is shot. What's the wiring look like? At the very least you'd probably need to go through everything to make it road worthy and reliable. If you think you're doing that for under 2K you are wrong. Hate to burst your bubble.

Pass. Buy a complete running beater. If you can't drive it home, you won't be able to drive it back.

I say pass. The money may become an obstacle later. Save your cash until you have enough to afford it. I sold one car and am saving right now to buy another. It's a better way to go.

save till you have the $$. you are getting a loan for a pile of parts... no way.

They are indeed money pits and I completely understand the emotional pull these deals sometimes have. It's funny that you should say that you paid $800.00 for your car because that's exactly what I paid for mine (in 1981) LOL

there is no money to be made on that car, unless you think you can get it for $500 and sell it as is for $1000
