i have a stock 318 that had a 2bbl on it ran good with that wanted to switch to a 4bbl was told a 600cfm dp would work good on it would that carb b worth my time tuning it to my engine or should i put it on the shelf and get a different carb if so what would b a wise choice for it?

600 vac. secondary, (not DP), or Carter/Edelbrock 625 will work well on your 318.

Just my opinion....you asked....

and you will need to change out the bracket that mounts the throttle linkage...

i have the carb on the car and have started it the only issue i have is a hesitation on quick acceleration otherwise on slow it will rev fine

Check accelerator pump for proper functioning.

Yep. Make sure both sides are in proper adjustment.

I know you've been on here before, but I don't remember if this is a combination you have spoken of previously? A "DP" can be made to work with a lot of combos, but with a stockish converter and highway gears, it may be going rich with WOT at low speeds. Does it seem like a lean hesitation, or a rich "too much fuel" bog?

when it stumbles i dnt smell fuel or see black smoke. but straight from the box would you say this carb is to rich for this engine? the carb number is 4776s

well i should say it stumbles badly but ill check that when i get a chance

Like Rick says, you could be drowning it if you're running stock comp. convertor, gears , etc.....Thats probably why the factory never put DP's on stock engines.

it is a low stall converter in a 727 with i wana 2.76 ratio in the rear but this all happens in park havent been able to drive it since i need tires

I'd go ahead and check accel pump(s)...also check vacuum advance is working and that you have enuf initial advance...vacuum leaks, float levels, weak fuel pump can all contribute to this problem.

ok now im not sure how much vac is suppose to b in the ported with slight throttle movement. as to i dnt get much chance to work with older engines at my work i get mainly electronically controlled vehicles

After seeing what you're working with, I have to agree with the above statement.

You can tinker with the DP, and adjust your driving style some (meaning feed the throttle vs mashing it), but overall I think you'd be happier with a vac secd carb.

Check all your plugs and make sure none of them are fouled, if any of them are lean all the circuits down a little bit and try again. Also check for vaccum leaks at your intake and carburetor base gasket.

What you're doin is like throwin a hot dog down a hallway. It'll never work right.

Wat would b a good setting for my carb as far jets. I no Ppl have given me some choices on carbs but what would b a good one for this lil teen (my intake is an old Holley dominator).

timing is set at wat should b stock i believe 10btc

Grab you timing light! This is probably a little too retarded even for a stock 318. Try 14* initial & see how it fares you're probably gonna find it likes somewhere around 12*-16*.
