Failed smog test fuel tank not holding vacum

With the new filter screen on the pick-up, I would guess that gunk is mostly in the line, but there's not much space there, so should clear pretty quick. If not, you could blow it out - pressurize tank with very low air pressure through the vent line at the carbon canister. I did that to flush/prime my line up to the pump when I replaced it.

So I guess it reads full, but then drops too soon? Was the new unit arm positioned and bent to same angle as old? Possible correction there. As long as it reads the same every time, your ground is probably good. As for buying American., not sure if there's one available. Did you save your old pickup/sending unit? Can't tell how deep the rust was on it in pic. If you think that could be cleaned up, I'd check the resistance on it. (don't recall the correct readings, but they have been posted several times) If good, I'd just swap the new filter and float on and use it.
