It just runs inline on the hot wire to the fuel pump.
If you are in a collision it kills power to the pump.
If it trips for any reason you's just push a reset button which I've never had to do.
I mounted mine near my fuel pump and it's weather proof.
The reason I installed it is because I heard a few stories of bad wrecks keeping the fuel pumps running....one guy burned to death after he got rear ended entering a car show.
He was knocked unconscious and the car caught fire and he burned to death.
