'Pop's Engine' another 440 on the dyno.

We put solid lifters on a 509 cam in a low compression 383 10 years ago. The engine was for a demo derby car. It went through a few derbies and then my son needed an engine for his 66 Coronet station wagon, in went the 383 with the 509. We ended up at Mopars At The Strip and they had a chassis dyno there. Curiosity got the best of Cody and he put the Coronet on the dyno. 300 HP and 330 LB-FT to the rear wheels. Not to shabby for a demo derby engine.

So Pop's engine is back together with the 1.81 exhaust valves and the solid lifters on the XE285HL cam. We broke in the new lifters and have put back in the inner springs and are ready to dyno tomorrow morning. Boy does the valve train sound better with the solids in there.

It's been so long since I put solids on a hydraulic I didn't want to have too much lash and wipe out the cam during break in, so I set the lash at .005" cold and kept an ear out for strange noises. Sure enough right at the end of the break in you could hear an occasional pop out the exhaust. The exhausts were just barely hanging open and the intakes were right at zero. They're set at .011" cold now, so we'll bring her up to temperature tomorrow and quickly check the lash before we make a pull to see what we've got.
