Current build is a magnum 360 .30 over.

I'm interested in the engine quest iron ram head
64cc
2.02 stainless intake
1.62 stainless exhaust

Can someone please recommend a cam?I Need to have my cam picked out so they know how to set up the heads right?
I'm looking for the car to have street manners but also looking to push!!

Thank you

1st engine I'm having build so please take it easy on me if I left out vital info.:newb:

Since you said Magnum, I am assuming you are sticking with a roller?

What kind of cM do you want? Hyd., solid, roller?
What else of the engine build can you tell use?
What about the car itself, Trans, gear ratio, tire size?
Lastly, what do you expect out of the car. Daily driver, hot rod, muscle car, etc....

1.6 rockers right?

As for type of cam i cant answer that. Because i haven't educated myself enough to know the difference.Open for suggestions

The car is 67 barracuda with a A833 4speed.
Gear ratio i was thinking 355 or 373.
Tire size.. open to suggestions/ open to whatever makes everything work.
I'm looking for a Hot rod/muscle car

Like the camshaft i haven't educated myself on the type of rockers that are available for my build.Open for suggestions.

Thanks

What are you going to do with the car? Street/strip, strip?

What year is your engine?

Do you want low and mid range power, or mid and upper range power?

My son and I are building a 91 360 pre-magnum but with hydraulic roller cam.

Street mostly maybe strip once or twice. Just to see what she'll do

my engine is 94

The only disadvantage is the cost difference. If you have a good stock roller core you can get that reground very reasonably and offset the cost right there.

What are the advantages/dis advantages of a hyd roller?

Thx

The "advantage" is I get the roller cam and can use "old style" intake and exhaust parts. Like an LD340 and 68-70 exhaust manifolds. More intake choices available.

I'm on my I-phone, so looking up stuff is a pain while I'm here at work, on lunch.
I'd recommend a duration @ .050 of 230 and a lift of approx. .500 on a 110. This would work with both gear sets and tires sizes from 26 - 27-1/2 inches.
(Example of a 26 inch tire would be approx. 235/60/15, a 255/60/15 is about 27+ inches)

The cam would operate in approx. the 1800-6000 RPM range.
If I myself was doing this, then I would do the 3.73 & 245/60/15 tire.

This is right in the ball park where he should be.

I have had good results with Crane. I know a kid who was a good racer that liked Lunati also.

I also like MP cams, but I was told a while back that they were now outsourcing their cams and they had quality problems.... Like the cam coming brand new in the box in two pieces and MP wouldn't warranty it.... Caution. I don't know if they have the problem fixed yet.

Dave Crower, from Crower Cams made a nice custom grind for my ex's 64 Dart with a slant 6 that had like 260° and .495" lift. She was happy with it in her street driver. I had a great experience dealing with Dave when I had her motor rebuilt. I would buy another from him again.

What he's talking about is tell them you want a cam with 230° duration at .050" lift and you want the lift to be a max of .500" with a lobe center around 110°.

Thanks Karl.

78kit, there are 2 threads going on about cams. One is titled something like "Help me understand cams." Ill be back in a few (I'm home now) after I poke around the net for a cam for you.

I have to make a note here. The basic specs I gave above are off. The duration at .050 I gave was 230. It should be 10* less at 220. The reason is the roller cam is a bit more of a power maker requiring less duration.

Secondly, getting a "Magnum" cam with low lift at this (low) duration is hard to find. The extra lift would require head work. I do not know exactly how much lift a Magnum head will handle as in stock form.

Lastly, Making use of a "LA" cam in a Magnum block is possible but it does have a draw back. The "LA" cams are longer. There are two things you can do.

1; Either use the "LA" timing cover and basically convert a Magnum to a "LA" up front or

2; Call the cam manufacturer and ask them to make that "LA" cam you like fit a Magnum engine. They will just copy the grind on to the Magnum cam core and make it up for you. This "Custom" cam is not more expensive.

Below are some ideas. Remember, you can always call Comp or Crane or whom ever you want to do a custom cam easy.

A Comp cam. This is there Thumper line. This will idle like a monster cam but be easy to deal and drive with.

I'm surprised at the pricey price of the Crane cam! Though it is right in the ball park of duration and lift.

A Howards cam.

Yea im going to read that thread tonight while watching graveyard carz.

Thanks for all the help guys!!

This one too big?

No,not at all. I'd use that with the 3.55's and the same tire above, 26-27 max tire size. It is a little short on RPM for what I though you maybe after. Figure crossing the finish line 200 RPM more and that is about it for the cam and engine set up. While you can spin it higher, your not making anymore power, just loosing power and spinning it higher.

You will still have to check clearances though.

In my daily driver, I have 3.55 gears with a 26" tire. I run an A904 w/ Factory High Stall, though. I made a thread almost two weeks ago about the Howards Cam "rumblefish360" listed. I've had my eye on that cam for a while now. Hopefully, I'll be ordering it in a few weeks. I think it will perform great for Street/Strip combinations.

I thought about going with a Comp Cams "Thumpr" Series cam, but I'm skeptical on how they perform. I love the crazy idle, but I don't want my street manners to decrease because I chose sound over performance.
