My 67 with the Indy crate 360,i have tti headers(nice fit!!!) I've always loved the sound of the short glass packs, I'm going to run 2 1/2" do you think you lose power with glass packs over flomasters, or is it just preference on sound?
 
For the most part, a full bodied muffler will make more power then a glasspack with the same input/output diameter in my experience. And i don't personally care for glasspack's. But with that said, i don't know that there is enough difference if you really like the GP sound?



P.S. Just to clarify, What I was getting at on the in/out comment above was, that years ago even with a 2 1/2" glasspack, the core diameter was usually reduced to keep them from being crazy loud. I'm not sure about the ones available today?
 
you probably wont notice +/- 3 horsepower to be honest. you are counting hairs on a mosquito's *** at this point.

use most any modern glasspack and you wont lose any power,look at borla,dynatech,dynomax,Magnaflow for alternatives. flowmasters usualy cost alitle power and might cost your mind.
 
Glasspacks would be a waste of some really nice Headers.

TTi's and Magnaflows .....Now your cooking with gas !!!!

i dont think youll lose any power.there are some really nice gp mufflers out there if you know where to look.jones exhaust makes some with a great core design that flows well,summit sells them in a bunch of different configurations for a fair price.if your interested ive got a few different sets of gp style mufflers on the shelf,some of which i made.including a set of stainless steel packs and a set chambered mufflers....and well just about everything else you can think of.

depends on the application...true dual(no crossover) 1.75" or 2" pipes with some long cherry bombs on a low comp chevy 350 gives the sound you describe.and i agree it belongs on a low rider.however dual 2.5" or 3" with an x-pipe with a set of dynomax bullets or jones thunderbolts on a mopar sb with some cam and compression will have a different note.... Spiral mufflers they r an inline muffler so it looks like a straight pipe on the outside but when u r driving it has a snarly sound in normal driving but binder hard accelerations and upper rpm range it is a completely unreal sound . I use these in my big block 67 and on my v10 ram both have 3.5 inch exhaust
