Exterior
-new paint metallic brown w gold flake
-new chrome bumpers
-New 205 R60 14 inch tires on Crager small bolt wheels
-newly rebuilt front suspension and rear leaf springs.
-new shocks all around
-new gas tank and fuel sender unit
-replaced the 71 grill with a newer 72 grill I had.
-solid and straight

Engine
-upgraded to a super six package for top performance from this 225ci
includes brand new OEM factory two barrel Holley Carburetor
with two barrel intake.
-Dutra Dual custom exhaust
-functional dual hood scoops for added air-flow performance
-new distributor and electronic ignition unit ensures quick starts and proper timing
-runs great. Dependable daily driver
-numbers matching engine and transmission
-new tune up, plugs and wires.

Interior
-clean comfortable interior
-factory am radio
-all gauges work
-new custom Swinger floor mats
-new glove box
-new back seat
-well maintained car

What it could Use
-hook up the heat. the heater core had a slow leak so we bypassed it because the car was driven mostly in the summer.
-the sail panels near the back window are showing some wear.
-the carpet on the drivers side is wearing.
-the front seat upholstery is starting to show wear.
-the car has some nicks in the paint from daily use.

You sure this isn't an early '72? I thought '71s had flush mount side marker lights?

Not complaining mind you-looks very nice to me, and I'm sure it's a great driver--was just curious-GLWS
 
That car is a 72, look at the rear marker lights, now look at the dash cluster....its a 72. BUT it is a nice car for the money!
 
Dash can be replaced (I put a '72 dash in my '71), grille can be replaced - marker lights - not sure if those can be swapped between years.. but seeing all of those things together makes me also think this is a '72
 
It looks like it was a very late delivery in the 1971 model year (6-25-71). Could it have come with the '72 markers and cluster but a '71 grille?

VIN on that warranty card does say LM23C1, doesn't it?
That bench seat would be '71, '72 would be the integral headrest, would it not?
But sure as hell, there's a lot of '72 there...
And no, the marker lights do not interchange, '71 has large cut-outs or openings with a recessed lip that the markers sit flush in, '72 just stick on the outside, studs go through and speed nuts, larger hole for light socket to go through.

Great car, nonetheless...
 
Also pretty sure the slotted bumper, for the jack, started in '71 also...
I didn't think there was a difference between '71-'72, just '70...Maybe I'm wrong
( I have had all 3 at different times).
 
That is a nice car. It is NOT a 71 though. Most others have already spotted the issues but Mopar did not put 72 up side marker lights and 72 up speedo clusters on 71 models. There is some glitch or something. It might require some investigating. Do all the vin, id stamps around the car all match. Another curious question. On the underside of the trunk lid are there 4 round cutouts in the framing for a go-wing. It should have them. I like this car. If I had some bucks I would want it. GLWTS!!
 
I did not. Click on his link and there are lots of photos. 71 bumpers didn't have the jack slots.

I saw that too. Edit to add: But I found this pix of the same marker opening in a '72 Duster: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=262026 So this looks stock.

As an observation, my late production '70 Ranchero had plenty of parts that had the '71 year part numbers marked on them. (If you were never into Fords of that era, the PN's contained info that indicated production year.)

But here is my question to all (being a newbie at this date stuff): Does it matter much as to value on this particular car? This is not a $25-30k car being claimed to be all original.

No, it wouldn't matter all that much, but it would seem odd for someone to graft in '72 side markers in place of '70-'71 style ones, since those are pretty universally considered to be more desirable.
 
Hmmm.....anyone consider this is a hybrid? 70/71 were identical, 72 had about 7 changes from the 70/71. All were cosmetic. As far as marker lights go, you can graft a 70/71 into becoming a 72 fairly easy. You would do that if you had mismatched fenders. If you really wanna know if it's a 72, look at the quarters. If the lights are recessed there, it's not. Or else it's had so much work that the year is not applicable.
 
The quarter marker lights are 72 style also, that was the question, whether they had been converted over to 72 style or not. From what I see, my guess it's a 72, period, but, who knows. Someone sure went through a lot of trouble to convert to a 72 if that's what happened. Also, it's more than 7 changes from 70/71, but I guess it depends on how your'e counting. The '72 interior is pretty much completely different for example.
