Was it common to have the wrong build sheet with the car? The one that was found in my Duster doesn't match the VIN. So I was just wondering if it happened a lot or what?

Build sheets were just garbage left behind by the assembly line workers. Having the wrong one in a car is not uncommon.

Was it in the seat spring? If so, the seat could have been swapped at some point.

Yea tucked in the seat spring. I can see rust marks from the springs on the paper. That could be a possibility.

Yes it is common, I found a build sheet in my GTX, which was green, that was for a red one. Same car, last two digits off by one. I may post it to see if the car is still around.
Pretty common. The build sheets in my duster were for a very similar car with a very similar build date. Same color seats. I'm guessing the sheets were tucked into the seats and then installed in the "wrong" car on the line. Easy to do since the cars were nearly identical.
My Challenger had the build sheet for a heavily optioned green 1970 challenger in the front seat. Guess someone swapped the buckets out at some point. I emailed the info to the hamtramck registry site in case someone was looking for it, but given that my car was a quick resto and "flip" job I'd wager the '70 was parted.
