Any "wide body" A bodies?

-
So Pauly,

WTF is that "tunner stuff" you're speaking of?
You might be interested to know that some people want to turn corners, accelerate, and stop just like, or better, than new cars do. I guess that all the road track prepared cars that numerous members on this forum have built and have shared valuable information about don't count in the "Mopar World" that you are a solid member of. Maybe you think that everyone in the "Mopar World" that you speak of wants to go in a straight line. If that is the case you have been misinformed.

You've posted exactly two times. Normally I welcome new guys and I'm always willing to help any new members if I can, as are all the great people here. Most members here would say "welcome, show us your ride!". I'm not gonna do that since you are such a "Mopar World" kinda guy.
Not you, no sir! Instead of introducing yourself, you jump right in and start dissing other members thoughts and ideas. Nice going!

So hotshot, impress us! -pauly

I agree- turning and stopping are pretty nice attributes...
And some of the attitudes are pretty sh@tty at times too, but with any group, you'll get that.

nice, someone needs to build that!

Anyways, I tried my had at photoshop. I should have picked a pic that showed the lines better, this car is too shiny!

Ok it's obviously not an A body but at least it a Mopar and could be done to any car...here's what I think of when I hear Wide body, not just adding some wheel flairs. Here's a link to there build, prepare to be amazed.

Nice job, bullying a new member. So, are you the almighty poster and nobody can disagree with you. pauly d gave his opinion and I don't remember reading anywhere in the rules where this site doesn't honor the first amendment. Just because he doesn't agree with the OP, doesn't mean he can't post. By the way, I don't care for them either so feel free to turn some animosity towards me as well. If I wanted something like that, I'd own a Viper.

Besides, if everyone liked the same things, the auto makers would never make any improvements and all cars would look the same. To each, their own.

Are there any good examples of wide body modifications for A bodies, say a duster?

I just have a hard time seeing the lines that you would pull away from the body to give it a nice "fat" look.

Think some posting got deleted somewhere. Let the Pauly's sort it out on their own...

i believe he is talking about post #20 "that tuner stuff no need for it in the mopar world"

It's been a while since I saw some good old FABO drama. I like the wide body look. Something new in a scene filled with the typical hot rod look. I welcome the pro touring look but i can't afford it and am still partial to the old school look.

Hell's Charger is his next assault weapon, built by Hot Rods to Hell. '69 Charger.
Look real close at that thing, for less frontal area the car was split lengthwise and had a few inches removed, top is chopped, then the sides were bulged, "Coke bottled", what ever you want to call it, this thing is soooo totally bad-***...(of course, there's probably way more money in it than many of our homes)
Sorry if this is off topic, but this thing is worth a look. I think this car might (maybe?) make that '68 posted earlier pale in comparison...And that IS a spectacular car!

245/45/17's converted to BBP with 11 3/4 front rotors, rear discs, and stock body.

With enough cubic Benjamins, you can do anything. Never seen any kits or parts for that kind of application, though, so it would be entirely custom. Done right, it could be awesome, done wrong it would just be dorky.

Woow that looks sweet! I love when people do body modifications that are hard too spot if you are not familiar with an original. I will be reading that thread.

This gives me an idea on how to widen the Fenders & Quarters on my D50 for Off-Road Tire Coverage.

Thank you! I've been trying to figure out how to widen them 2" or so on each side, while keeping a somewhat stock styling/design. And since no one makes fenders anymore, especially the ones I want (3" Wider Aftermarket "John Baker" Pre-Runner Fenders), it made it a tough project to comprehend

front or rear fenders?
on my 99 ram I pulled the bedsides out 2" for more tire coverage. I just cut the wheel well between the bedside and the bed floor, pulled it out and stuck something 2" wide between the cut halfs and welded in a piece of sheetmetal

Go for it. Toyota had 2 fenders for their pickups, depending on the platform. Widening is actually pretty simple for something as big as your truck.

The best method that I've seen is a mock up made from cardboard that inserts into the lip that is cut out.

If you're just widening, the metal strip trick above that spike suggested is easy. You just cut a semi-profile. It's not a straight strip of metal, you have to factor in taper and wheel arch shape, because of the metal taper. Sort of like how a bumblebee stripe is anything, but straight, when you see it laid out on a flat backing sheet.

If you are doing this and would like some wheel arch stretch, you can cut the original arch off and insert a T spacer instead of a new profile strip. This will allow you to split the wheel arch and lengthen it where you want it stretched. Usually, the center is the easiest place to stretch, because it's relatively straight. If it's a curved arch that has no straight portions, you will need to re-curve the entire profile.

I did a '69 Swinger that was pro street. The guy didn't want to go with the hemi wheel arches, so when it was tubbed for 31x15" Goodyears, we stretched the wheel arch in the center about 2" and plenished the entire quarter panel to give it an additional 1/2" convex rise on the sides for more upper wheelhouse clearance for the tub that is hardly noticable. The car looks uncut, unless you're right next to another A body and study both, closely.

That SEMA and Hells charger are interesting cars, in total design, but I feel like the rear quarter widening was a little unnecessary on the SEMA car. I know they didn't want to change the design and it's hidden well, but the only reason I can see why they did it was just to do it.

I still think the wide body idea would lend itself very well to an early a, especially a '64-'66 barracuda, kept simple with some wide arches, like the GT and T/A cars had.

I would love to see an early A body that was track prepped with 15x8s on all 4 wheels without relocating springs, for a wider track width.
