Hey everyone!

Doing some cleanup on my 73 Duster. It's a very base, very un-optioned car with rubber floors.

The original rubber floor is in great shape and I'd like to keep it that way - so I'm looking for some floor mats.

I'm trying to keep it as "oem" as possible - so I'm wondering if cars with rubber floors would have had floor mats, and if so, what kind of floor mat would they have?

I've seen the single rubber floor mats like these, and wondering if they would be correct (although I'm struggling to find them in Black)

Thanks!

Putting a floor mat on what essentially is a big floor mat seems a little redundant....

Or I guess you can put a floor mat over the rubber floor to keep it from wearing..

Hey, that just triggered a thought. Since most people put a rubber floor mat on a carpet covered floor, you can put carpet floor mats on a rubber floor car.... LOL!

The good thing about the rubber floor (vs a carpet) is you can clean the interior with a garden hose!!!

But seriously folks....

Yes, I have seen floor mats similar to that where the two front ones are connected together. However, If I remember correctly, if one of them got crooked, then it would cause the other side to go crooked. And I believe that sometimes the rubber "connector" part in the middle would sometimes buckle or not fit the hump right. Maybe the floor hump was either 4 speed or automatic, and the floor mats were opposite.

I would be concerned that the rubber floor mat would slide easily on top of the rubber flooring. You might need to anchor it with some Velcro.

25 years ago I bought a 1970 Dart that was an old lady car (literally) It had 27,000 on the clock and had never been out of the county where it was bought. I bought it, drove it as an occaisional car for 5 years or so and then did a mostly stock restoration and it was my first show car. The interior was original and it had the factory mats. They eventually started to crack, but I really liked them, mainly because they had a big beefy heel pad to protect the carpet. I took the old mats to Legendary and now they reproduce them - part # FMOR70CLV000.

They were originally black but the repops are a variety of colors. If you want something that looks original, that's the ticket...

Looking at my 72 Dart documentation, rubber flooring came standard on everything except the Swinger, Dart Custom, and Demons with bucket seats. According to my literature, there were no factory mats per se. Mats for the Dart would have been distributed through Mopar to the dealer's parts department. If someone has a '73 Mopar parts book and would look up floor mat availability, the issue would be settled.

I do not have a Mopar parts manual, so I would be going on somewhat faulty memory as to what styles were available. I don't recall carpeted mats or an over the transmission tunnel rear mat for the A-body. I do recall that clear mats were offered for a number of years, but I don't recall if they were still available in '73.

I believe the car did not originally come with floor mats. To be on the safe side, I would carefully pull up that rubber mat and check your floors for rust. Those rubber floors didn't breathe real well....
