I recently picked up a 98 dakota r/t. We got it as nothing more than a play toy so looking to do something a little different. We picked up a carbed M1 intake and was wondering what all do we need to change with the switchover? ?

You will have to start at the fuel tank first and remove the high pressure factory fuel pump. I have no Idea as if the 98 engine has provisions for a mechanical pump so a in line electric pump for carburators and a regulator set for what ever carb you have. Edelbrock AFB's about 4 1/2 to 5 lbs, Holley about 7 lbs. This is the minimum to get you going.
My Neighbor has 2 R/T's as toys and one is set up for Stock S/Stock, Injected but has plans to got to a carb and run in the GT class.

That's my plan with it eventually. So much more power and much less headache! Thank you so much for the info Darter6

I haven't kept up. Don't the 98's have crank trigger ignition, and a cam sensor in the distributor? That means essentially you'll need a complete ignition.

You can't use the "in tank" pump? How many pumps, one? two?

Frankly I think this is the wrong way to head. You don't have the computer? What's wrong with the injection?

Put a Megasquirt on there, or buy a Holley HP computer

Is this an automatic? Is it computer controlled?

You can buy or make a electronic ignition kit like all carb'd mopes have. Regulate your fuel pressure down as mentioned. The computer might go stupid if it's an auto, but you need the computer to run the auto trans.

Send the computer and wiring harness and all the EFI goodies to me.

Hard to believe a carb can give more power. You can improve the air flow of the "beer keg" intake by cutting the runners shorter internally. A guy on ebay sold templates and instructions, plus other upgrades. That would give more high rpm HP, at the expense of low-end torque. You could also put a throttle body on the M1 intake if you think that flows more. Look for a Holley Pro-jection 2 on ebay. I have seen just the throttle body for ~$30. I think you could have the Magnum MPFI wiring drive the TBI injectors, since Holley's Commander 950 works with either. The 98 might be "alt bank fire", in which case 4 injectors are tied in parallel. Find those with a multimeter and connect to one TBI injector. And the other group to the other injector. The computer won't know it is pulsing TBI injectors instead of MPFI ones. Have the Magnum computer continue to control the spark ignition either way.
