I have a 68 valiant with a slant 6. The previous owner allowed the power steering fluid leak to eventually eat up the bushing in the strut rod on the driver side of the car. When the car is driven, you can hear a click when the brake is applied and then when you take off, it clicks again. Which is most likely the strut rod playing back and forth.
Are these hard to replace without taking the whole front suspension loose on the car?

Is there a process documented somewhere for the procedure?

The strut rod bushing is up front in the K member, so the fluid isn't the culprit there. However, the lower A frame bushing is below the P.S. and the fluid can get to that. What you're actually hearing is the rotten lower A frame and strut rod bushing working together to irritate you.The fact is these bushings wear out fluid or no. Most likely, the front suspension in general should be rebuilt to do it right. Also, If one side is acting out, the other is close behind. If you decide to do this yourself I can give detailed simplified Instructions, and there are other members here that can as well.

Actually the bearing in the PS pump allows the fluid to drip straight down on the bushing. The leak was coming from the pump. But anyways, when I replace one side, I plan on checking out the other bushings and joints as well. I have time to do it. But I wanted to know if it was a job a semi- experienced person could handle in their garage and if there are any special tools needed beside sockets, air compressor, jack and stands, seat, etc.

It's not that bad of a job as long as the torsion bars aren't stuck. Remove the big nuts that hold the lower control arms to the K frame, slack off the torsion bar adjusters, remove the nuts on the struts and pry the lower control arm out of the K frame, knock the struts out of the control arms, replace the bushings and reverse the removal procedure.
