Passon Performance 5-speed

-
I worked with Jamie on my last 833 rebuild and he was great to deal with. He had everything I needed and it was all top quality. I badly want one of these new 5 speeds for my 68. I think Jamie's 5-speed is one of the coolest items to become available to Mopar guys for a long time. Now I need to save up the $$.

I will have one of these....when available to the masses.

I never wanted anything less than a 5 speed but really didn't like any of the popular options out there. This is the absolute best scenario if you got a little spare cash.

Definitely love the idea of an overdrive with the Dusters 3.91 gears, the .70 ratio brings that down to about 2.74 (rounded) which would make it great for highway cruising. Seeing as the design uses 3 shift levers like the A833 with the Reverse lever providing the Overdrive gear, what exactly will the shifter pattern be?

has anyone installed a passon 5sp in a e body.i would like to see some pictures of one with shifter installed.i have a e body 4sp with pistol grip in a non e body car that I made my own trans tunnel for.before I order one I need to no it will clear my floor.thank anyone in advance for any help.

I didn't go through all the post but for an update.
Mopar Muscle has installed the 5 spd into a Dart. Paula drives it on the street often. she seems to love it.

Looks like a whole lotta fat geared Mopars will finally be humming lower RPM's at cruising speed.
I for one will be saving my nickels, dimes and quarters so I don't have to run 3000 rpm at highway speed.

Dumb question as I have not read the MM article yet but what weight trans dope is recommended Inside the case?
Synthetic or conventional?

I know the a-833 seals do not like synthetic.

Jamie did all his testing with synthetic.

I was # 18 on the "list". I got mine a few months ago for my 1970 e-body and it has about 400 miles on it now. I would not take it out if you paid me. I lowered the rear gears from 3.54's to 3.73's, and it spins at 2400 rpm at 75 mph with 325 50-15's.

There is no other way to describe slipping it into 5th gear after merging onto the freeway other than to say it is relaxing and my mileage has gone up measurably.

Although I have not done it yet, as I am trying hard to break it in properly for 700 miles before loading it with the full fury of 720 hp; winding out 4th gear and then slipping it into 5th at full throttle will likely induce a fear of sudden flight as the speedometer needle quickly swings past the "H" on the bottom of the 150 mph speedometer on the Rallye gauge.

No wonder they put wings on these cars.

Glad you are enjoying your A855 JBC426. Makes me super itchy to receive mine but I guess that will be a
Long time yet. Does anybody have news to share about a 5 speed received since March?

For those that want to know; mph=(rpm x tc) x 1/( 1056 x r1 x r2 )
a 235/70-14 is about 85inches, so let tc = 85
r1( diff. ratio) is 3.73, r2( trans. ratio) =1.0
so; mph = (rpm x 85tc) x 1/ (1056 x 3.73 x 1.0)
so; (65mph x 1056 x 3.73 x 1.0) x 1/85tc = 3012rpm
or (4500rpm x 84tc) x 1/(1056 x 3.73 x1.0) =97mph
x1/ means "devided by", cant find that sign on my board.

or you could just use one of many calculator sites out there. just plug your info and the overdrive ratio in and it dos all that math for ya..:)

Ordered my 855. It is what it is - exactly what I want... I'm not hacking my car. I'll get it when I get it. Until then the 833 will have to do what it does.

Did Jamie tell you what number you are on his list or an approximate delivery timeframe?
.

Don't know, but if all the parts were available 5 days a week and there was a dedicated, qualified assemblyman putting in 40 hours weekly that should be very easily attainable.

Well the qualified assemblyman is Jamie so we're good there, and I'm sure he'll be doin' 40 at a minimum but he's still got to crank out his core business 4 speed work too. I'm really hoping your estimate is close though.........

No doubt this is just a portion of his business. It's pretty obvious that all Jamie's hard work will make a lot of Mopar jammers happy... glad to see such a great demand. Can't imagine all the time and money spent in R&D.

A friend reported that he ran with a guy from Texas at the September Hot Rod Drag Week and the guy had a 72 Challenger with a Passon 5 speed in it. Claimed that he was on a list and in a mid 20s spot, received it and got it broke in just in time to do Drag Week. Anybody know more about that???? Anyway, sounds like we're a few closer!

I have no idea as to when I will get mine, but I'm sure that it won't be until next Summer at the earliest. My project is behind schedule now, and I don't see me needing before then. I've toyed with the idea of putting me at the back of the list NOW, but I'll work that out with Jamie later. The Valiant won't need it for at least another year, hopefully. Can we all say that it takes lots of funds to do one of these A-bodied beasts.
