Hi, what is your guys and girls mopar story? post some pics up and tell your story.

My 1968 Dart

I bought this car last September In Ct from 80fbody for $2,200

This car is my first car. I have it planed to be done in My first years of high school, orig, a /6 auto 7 1/4 1968 dart. Car is originally from NY and has been through 2 owners before me. My plans for the car is bright metallic red, red int. black painted top, black stripe. for drivetrain I'm going with a narrowed fabricated moser rear, built 727 on floor, new Indy hemi built with a stroker 426 kit - forged pistons and low compression for a 671 Blower. The engine is shooting to make about 650 hp or more we will see, The the rear is going to be fully balk halved.

72' Demon

I bought it just over two years ago from a cool dood, contractor, who obtained it from an older gentleman who had the car for over 15 years. the gentleman needed his home painted and the dood gave him a quote but the gentleman didn't have enough cash on hand for the job. noticing the Demon in the driveway the dood asked about it and it became part of the deal. he brought it home, yanked the 318/904 out and purchased a Mopar crate motor from Summit Racing, he lives 10 miles from Summit, along with a new trans/converter, hooker headers, holley carb. and all of the hoses belts etc to do a motor change.
3 years and 3000 miles later he got back into the mustang scene, yeah i know, and wanted to sell the Demon for garage space for his new vert gt ford something who cares and didn't want to put the Demon outdoors.
i saw the CL ad and after several emails and a phone call or two we struck a deal. i sold a car to a buddy and delivered it to him in GA, then drove 80 miles north and picked up the Demon along with TONS of NIB parts he gave me with the car like TTI coated headers, Mopar door handles, all emblems side marker lights etc to replace after paint. tons of new interior parts too, carpet with matting, door plates ect., it also came with an complete a body 8.75 from a 70 340 duster.
My plan was to swap in the 8.75, rebuild the front end then tear it down for new paint, interior, stripes and install the TTI's but in the two plus years i've had it i have done nothing to it but drive it :) i can't stop driving it :D
i'll get her done once i have me conquest finished which should be within a couple months.

My Mopar's story is kind of sad.

I bought if from a man in Michigan about 2 1/2 years ago. It was in pretty good shape when I got. It and only needed exhaust work, a new carb and other odds and ends.

Now for the sad part.....

The owner previous to him was an older teenage boy who rebuilt the car with his father as a father/son project. The car was an original /6 car from California that the father bought and had shipped to Michigan. They stripped the car down, painted it and converted it into a 340 clone. After the car was finished, they took it to a few local shows and even made a trip to the big mopar show in Carlisle.

Later that year, the son went back to school and was out at a late night party. At the party he consumed a large amount of alcohol and had to be taken to the hospital where he later died from alcohol poisining! Needless to say the family was devastated. The father couldn't stand having the Duster around anymore, as it always reminded him of his son's tragic death. So he advertised it for sale locally and the guy I bought it from (Jeff) went and looked at it and bought it on the spot. When the father was telling Jeff the story about the car and his son, they were both in tears while doing the deal on the car.

Jeff had the car for a few years and had a new 360 built for the Duster, but said he never drove the car much and would rather see someone else enjoy it instead of it just sitting collecting dust in his garage.

Ever since it has been here with us, we have had nothing but fun and good times in the rolling pumpkin and it is now part of our family. We love taking it to car shows and cruises and ripping around town in it!

This is my 73 Challenger Rallye. My dad bought it brand new. He always knew I loved the car so he never sold it. It's basically done. I just have to work some bugs out of it.

I bought my 68 Dart in August. It spent a lot of its life under a car port in Nevada.

Been around muscle cars all my life , finally was old enough to start looking for one to buy my sophomore year. Searched for months and months on craigslist for a duster/demon/dart sport because I love the body styles so much . Finally found my '75

Now 2 years later into my senior year my full vision for it is almost complete .

Bought it from an Alfa Romeo collector whom bought it for his daughter for her birthday and the daughter wouldn't drive it because of the condition it was in at the time .

Fine with me !

Ok, I guess I'll tell my story... Funny, I was actually driving in my 1968 Dodge Dart today and starting a video blog for a possibly new Youtube channel I kind of want to start, just for the fun of it. Too bad my gopro was lying against my windshield and making tapping noises throughout the entire thing so I'll refilm it tomorrow.

Anyways, back when I was in high school, for my graduation present my dad bought me 2 1968 Dodge Darts as project cars. I really wanted to work on them and learn, but I had no money, tools, or experience so they sat at my mechanics for a year. My mom got so mad at me, I told my dad to sell the cars so that hopefully someone could work on them. Both were pretty big projects for a teenager, imo. One was a hardtop that had a decent interior but a bad 273 and the other was a /6 post car that had a straighter body but needed a lot of attention. Anyways, I wish I had kept at least one of them but we let them go for practically nothing. Honestly, we could have made a lot more money on them but just broke even instead. I always wondered what happened to them. I believe the red hardtop was sold to a guy named James and I'm not sure who got the Sunfire Yellow one. I really was starting to like that color too before I had to let it go.

Anyways, about a year later (July 2012) I found my current Dart on CL. I had been bugging my mom about getting another car for a year and her excuse was, "What's going to be different? How do you know you can work on it?" So, I joined a club at school where they design and build a small off-roading vehicle. Anyways, I learned a little bit more about cars and when I had found my Dart on CL, I did what I had to do to convince a mother that her son is ready for a car project. I basically made up a 30+ page Powerpoint explaining why I should be able to buy an old car. She thought it was so funny, she had to let me get it. So the next day I called the guy and my dad and I visited him in a shopping center after work the next week. My dad is really good at negotiating and I know mopars better than him so we tag teamed. It was listed as a 318 car and as I looked around I saw a "273" on the exhaust manifold and asked to decode the VIN. I confirmed that it was a 273 car and that's when my dad started to chip the price down. He'd ask me questions in arabic asking what price he should offer even though my arabic is terrible and I'd just nod yes or no. Eventually we knocked him down $1500 off his already, pretty low price for a running 273 car and we had him take the car back to my house at night.

Anyways, so now I got my running and driving mopar and it's the summer. Why not drive the heck out of it? So I did... The first 3 mile trip around my neighborhood, the power steering hose blew up when I hit my driveway. Then I found the steering coupler!!!

That's right, that is scrap metal, barely welded to the only thing connecting my steering column to my power steering box... The more I looked into the car, the more things I found wrong. My striker peg area was cracked, the driver's door wasn't original to the car, the locks were installed weird, etc. I still drove the car quite a bit that summer and enjoyed it.

Towards the end of summer, my mom was going to marry her current husband and what teenager wouldn't want to bring his classic car to a wedding? So I brought it, drove about 75 miles that day. It was featured in some pictures and I really enjoyed myself. Unfortunately, when we got to the reception, the restaurant that served us really screwed us over. Basically, the reception ended early and as I parked the Dart on the inclined driveway to put the gifts in the trunk, the car suddenly rolled back as I attempted to put it in Park. Anyways, we go over a curb backwards and hit a tree. Luckily, no one saw and I pulled the car forward. The only damage to the car was a little scuff and a paint chip. I don't think I spotted any damage to the tree, it may have been a little more crooked than usual. Right as we're about to leave, my mom decides she wants to go home with me even though she didn't like the Dart. At the same time the manager comes out demanding more money and that's when things escalated extremely quickly. I got pissed, he threatens to put me under citizen's arrest (I just yelled at him. I'm not dumb enough to throw a punch). Eventually cops get involved and let us go. On the way home, I babied the car. I knew there was a brake problem so I only drove at about 50 mph and kept my distance from other cars. Well, to get to my house you have to go through some sort of hill. At the last hill to get my house, I knew something was going to go wrong. I told my mom and her husband, "So, this is what's going to go down. The brakes don't work well so hopefully when we reach that light at the bottom of the hill, the light is green and no one is there. When we get down there, I'm going to first slam the brakes. If that doesn't work, I will pull the emergency brake. If that doesn't work, I'm going to just turn this car and hopefully we don't go into opposing traffic." So we get down to the bottom of the hill. Brakes didn't work and I barely make the turn and limp the car the next half mile home.

From then on, it was just a year long battle redoing the entire brake system. That included firewall repairs, switching from power to manual brakes, redoing the entire KH disc brake system, and rebuilding the steering column. I eventually was able to take it to Fall Fling this year and have some fun. I enjoy the car every once in awhile. I drive her about every 2-3 weeks or so.

New plans for this summer is replace the leaf springs, install my 8 3/4, replace the T-bars, rebuild the suspension, and hopefully install a 360. We'll see how far I go.

This was the car about a year and a half ago. It looks pretty much the same, just dirtier. Lol. It looks uglier in real life. The paint was like a cheap-o $500 job by the previous owner.

Sorry, no pictures...

I have been around performance cars all my life and was lucky enough to turn driving age when gas soared to a $1.00 a gallon. No body wanted the gas guzzlers so you could buy nice big block cars that were totally decked out for $300 or less all day long. I would buy one, keep it a few weeks, then sell it or trade it and get another one. I had Roadrunners, Chargers, GTOs, Chevelle SSs and even a bubble top 409 Chevy during that era. Got in to Mustangs and pickups after that.

In 1996 the Mopar fever struck again when I fell in love with a 1968 Barracuda convertible with 63K miles on it. It was last inspected in 1986, the original owner that had it had let it set decided to restore it so he removed the interior, took it to the body shop, owner died and family couldn't pay the bill so they gave the body shop the title, a guy that I bought it from the body shop but didn't get the interior and some exterior parts, he had them paint it white, he got correct front seats but had them covered in cloth, couldn't find the correct rear seat so they made one out of wood and covered it to match the fronts (it actually looked really decent if you didn't know what it was supposed to look like) and a new top. Then he put it back in storage. In 1995 I was working on a 1927 Buick. He had Buick parts that I had gone to pick up, I saw the convertible and liked it. A year later I decided I wanted the Barracuda so I called him up and made a deal to buy it.

I started to redo it correct with some OEM upgrades but business was so busy that I never got to work on it, then I ended up sick for about a year so I didn't feel like working on it, got to feeling better and was so far behind that I didn't have the time to work on it, got hit by a car while I was on foot which resulted in surgery and I have never been the same again. Over a year ago I developed a breathing issue so it still sits untouched. The days I feel decent, there is always something I have to do to meet mandates so I never get to work on it which is a shame because I have all the goodies to finish it. I have strongly considered selling it.

1972 Duster
I bought the car exactly 2 weeks ago. Got a long ways to go but I'll get there with the support of my wife and the help from a few friends that this car has helped me meet!! My plans are to get the 318 running, backed by a 4 speed. I wanna get it running, driving and stopping good then concentrate on the body and interior.

The guy I bought the car from said he bought the car with plans to fix it but never got to it. He brought it home, rolled it off the trailer and threw a tarp over it. The owner before him bought the car off the drag strip 22 years ago, it still has window chalk on the driver quarter glass!! That's about all the story I got on it right now.

'69 Dart- Been a drag car most its life and in my family since the mid to early '70s. I got it a couple years ago as a roller and built up a 340/727 for the car. Its had a full tub job done, 8pt roll bar, sub frame connectors, lift off fiberglass hemi hood, inboard spring kit with S/S springs.

'74 Scamp- Bought the car 9 months ago off the original owners family. Their grandson had it and started to do a street machine with it, he added mags, a 4bbl with aluminum intake ect. I'm changing the wheels to another pair of mags and make it my daily driver for high school.

As we get older we have more and more...lol.
First one was when I was 15 1/2 - I was into building plastic models and I had ridden my bike to the local KB Toy and bought a few car models. One was a '71 Cuda. When I saw it it was the meanest looking car I'd ever seen. When I was 16 I "got a real job" at Stop & Shop. 2 weeks in I saw a '71 Barracuda in the parking lot. I called it a Cuda, so did the teenage owner. A week later I owned it. There's another '71 Cuda I chased off a torn scrap of paper for a few months accross two states and ended up buying.
In terms of A bodies- I was in my later teens working a local parts store and an account called me. Thye had been paid to tow a car from a sold house and thought I might want it (I had the "Mopar guy" rep at that point). I went and looked, and drove the car home for "the tow bill and pizza money" ($200). It's the only one of my "teen cars" that I still own - my '72 Demon.

I had a minor fender-bender back in 1982 and an insurance adjuster called me to discuss it, in the conversation he asked if I knew anybody interested in buying an old Dart, I said yes I`ll look at it me and a friend drove to Orange N.J. to look at it , I had owned several Dusters and Darts in the past and this one wasn`t bad, it had a bad right front fender a ripped front seat , a 7 1/4 rear and an old 318 with nothing but headers and mufflers. $400 later it was mine and on its way home. I found a 68 Dart sedan sitting behind a gas station near my home that had a good right font fender which had the " Sport Special " tag on it and had one on the left fender also. I bought the whole car for $200 took what I needed and sold the car back to the station. I put the fender on my car along with the Sport Special tags and they still remain on the car today and nobody knows what it is. Now almost 32 years later, soon to be on its 8th different small block combo ( R block, Indy 360-1 headed pump gas 408 ), numerous paint touchups, a mini tub job, and many other things its gone from a mid 15 second car to the mid 10s ( 10.40 best) back to the mid 11s and winning more than ever. Its been to many Mopar events as far away as Ohio, Indy and Virginia to name a few, 10 NED Bracket Finals and was the 2013 Island Dragway Street Eliminator Points Champion and 2013 NED Street Race of Champions participant as well as being featured in High Performance Mopar magazine back in 1997, I`ve bracket raced it almost since the time I got it and still am having a blast with " Goldie " as my wife calls it. I also have a 92 D150 2WD, 5.2, standard cab, short bed pickup I bought new and still own that I cruise, show and bracket race. As well as an 08 Hemi Quad Cab 4WD for towing and bad weather transportation..... tgfastfishs Dart looks a lot like mine did right down to the color and I had a 74 Dart Sport similar in color to Dartnuts I bought for $200 ( no motor or trans ) whats weird it still had the 4 inch bolt pattern wheels with intentions of building another race car, I did a few things, put an 8 3/4 rear in added a scoop like that, fuel system, some interior work , bought Schumacher mounts but decided to sell it because the the trunk floor was so rusted, i sold it to a guy on Long Island for $1,000.

very nice story , memike. I remember reading back a while and hearing about your story and everything people did for you, sad but with a very happy ending

It will be three years ago this July when I bought my Dart. I had heard it was coming to town but NEVER thought I would get a chance to buy it. The PO had bought the car in 2004 to drive in the Hot Rod Power Tour. While on the tour he broke the oil pan and had the car towed back to Texas where it sat for seven years. He decided to bring it up to my home town to a big car show to see if he could sell it as he was having a street rod built here and wanted to put the money from the dart into his new ride. I was at the beginning of the show and a buddy of mine that has a 69 Dart was talking about my Dart and was going to look at it. I asked if I could tag along and off we went. As soon as I walked into the trailer and saw the Dart I was in love. My buddy was looking it over pretty close and saying that it was a good car so I stood back. After he looked it over I asked if he was going to get it and he said that he did not have the time or money for another project. That was all I needed to hear! I called the owner and made the deal. It was delivered two days later and the fun began. I pulled the motor, put a new oil pan on it and it fired right up. I have been upgrading things on the car ever since. In one of the pics you can see a pic of my 68 dart and my buddies 69 Swinger in my driveway!
