I'll throw my 2c in on the mileage with the 4.7. We've got a 2010 reg cab short bed 4x4 with an added tonneau cover. We took it to the Nationals from VA - about 370 one way. Between the to and from trip (used cruise most of the time) and back and forth the the hotel, we got between 23-24 MPG, which I don't think is hateful at all for a full size truck. Locally we average around 18-19MPG.
