Long time in the dumps and think of getting out of mopars

-
Don't make a rash decision. 2013 was the worst year of my life to date both emotionally and financially. On a lighter note, I got back into my back-burner Mopar project, despite a complete lack of play money and accomplished more by sheer willpower than I had in the past 20 years when I had more time and money available.
And if you should have to sell your Mopar, that doesn't mean you can't look towards getting another or hanging out on the site with kindred spirits.

I actually am sharing your sentiments on this. I have been Mopar faithful for a long time and all it has gotten me is broke. I am actually eyeing selling all of my Mopar stuff cheap enough to make it sell and whoopin up a small block Ford to put in something. Maybe a Falcon....or Maverick or even a Pinto. I had a 289 Pinto many years ago I built and it was so easy, I was left wondering why it was not a factory option. I have been comparing small block Ford prices to small block Mopar prices and Mopar has about a 2 to 1 expense rate over Ford. It's stupid. It's not about being faithful anymore. It's about staying in the automotive hobby.

How about stuffing a 302 into an early (83-84) Ranger? Had a short bed one years ago that I should have hung onto. Had manual steering/brakes. With the heavy *** Pinto 4 banger it scaled at just over 2600 pounds....with out my fat a** in it...Had a 4x4 Ranger that had a mild 302 in it. Sad to say but with me behind the wheel of both it and my old 340 Dart (both motors leaned on a bit) the Ranger posted better numbers at the drag strip....

People can say what they want but I will more than likely swapping an LS into my Dart.....hard to beat them when it comes to bang for the buck....

Mark, I don't know you but completely understand what you're saying and feeling. The cars will always be there should you want to come back. There are still a lot of good people in this hobby. Live life the way you want. Cars are just cars.

mark,

do what ya gotta do man. take a break and see if you change your mind. spring time and nice weather may get you back in the groove. if not sell and don't look back , though if you have people interested now it may be the time to do it... if you ever want to get back in there will be cars there.

i've been slowly liquidating stuff myself. got tired of stockpiling all that stuff and tripping over it. pulled the yellow dart apart because i was tired of putting money into just another rusty slant six car. been trying to convince jamie into selling her dart because i really don't feel like working on it. the heart just isn't into it. been enjoying my mustang too much to worry about her dart and haven't had to dump money into it other then routine maintenance. even thought about selling that to and buying a new one.

i will always love the classic mopars but at this point i'm really bored of them. been messing with them since i was a kid and pretty much just lost interest in them. if i sell everything i'm sure down the road i'll find something that sparks my interest again then it will be if i want to spend the money on the car or not..

as a kid i drove nothing but mopars (well first two cars were pontiacs) but as i have gotten older there are a lot of other brand cars that i would really like to own also.. i'm a mopar guy but really appreciate and like other brand cars too.

good luck in anything you choose...

Rusty back in the day you could get a 289 powered Pinto here in Canada , at least in a wagon you could , as for everybody bailing well what ever floats your boat fellas , spare us the pity parties and post your stuff in the for sale section then move along nothing to see here folks . This " I'm quitting" stuff seems to have taken over from the " Help me I'm needy" crowd who come on here begging while living in upscale houses and owning a half dozen cars . If your not into it anymore just move on , quietly send your friends a PM and disappear into the ether .

PS this is not directed at the OP specifically but more to the wagon jumpers .

Hi Mark,

Dude dont give up. The cuda your building is freakin awesome. Mebbe let it hibernate in your garage under a cover for awhile until you get the itch to work on it again. Then it will be there to scratch that itch. Take a needed break from it, do you still have your motorcycle? Mebbe you should take time and enjoy some more time with your family, and mebbe take some nice motorcycle rides. Your car has come a long way.

Look at pix of mine. It was pretty much a parts car. I dont have time to work on it now, but i am collecting parts for when the time does come.

Whichever way you decide to go i wish you all the best.

Matt

So who all is this directed towards? People like me who live in a 14 year old double wide because it's all I can afford and have two ten year old cars as daily drivers? People like me who send BIG things like racing seats to friends in CANADA for FREE? I do what I do to get by and if that included "jumping the wagon" then that's my frikkin business and not anybody else's.

Or maybe it's directed at those on here who live in multi million dollar houses but never ever seem to donate on any benefit thread? Please, tell me who you directed this to.

you know it was the latter but whine on buddy , I live in an apartment and rent a garage for my car ,when someone in true need asks I help when I can , when someone with a three bedroom cedar home with a matching detached garage on a chunk of land comes on here begging I draw the line , I have offered to help some of those guys in the past and had it spit in my face so good riddance , the last couple of years there has been a pretty steady stream of guys coming on here saying there fed up with the hobby and blah blah blah well if your not into move on , I work damn hard for everything I have and come to FABO to enjoy fellowship with like minded mopar enthusiasts not read about how the hobby is crap because .... If your on here looking for sympathy look in the dictionary it's somewhere in betweet shyte and syphillus , This is a subject that comes up every time I visit other FABO members and maybe it's time someone put it in words, If your ill or laid up then of course we all want to be there for you but if your life isn't working out the way you planned , welcome to the human race buddy , suck it up buttercup . rant over moving on to happier things .

Sounds like a Charlie Brown Moment...........breathe........take more time to think......gather your thoughts............breathe..........it's no different with a chevy or a ford........Just takes a tougher guy to build a MOPAR......quit bein such a wuss

I've had my Dart for about 20 years and it hasn't moved an inch on it's own. I can't seem to get rid of it.

Don't say much more or you'll become part of the wuss club. lol

Cover it up and walk away, pick up another hobby for awhile. 15 years ago I sold everything because I was tired of alot of the BS that comes with this hobby, but now I really regret that decision.
