Jeep Cherokee Rear 8.25

You asked for it - you got it!

I just finished installing a 2000 Jeep Cherokee 8 1/4 rear in my 68 Barracuda. I used the 9" brake drum setup from the Jeep and a driveshaft from a 78 Aspen. The e-brake cables mounted straight in. The Jeep brake flex hose also fit with the original steel brake hose. You have to remove the old perches, they are welded on the top of the housing. I was careful cutting off the perches so that I could reuse them. I had the perches welded back at a 5 degree angle, 43" center to center. You also need to cut off the Jeep shock mounts. If you really wanted to you could reweld one of them and use them for your a body shocks. I went with shock plates from an 8 3/4. I bought u-bolts from a Cherokee off eBay for $16 and used them to mount the housing.
For the driveshaft, I bought a unit from a 78 Aspen and used the slip yoke from the Barracuda. The Aspen slip yoke is just a little bit longer (about 3/4"). Oh, I have the 904 auto in the Barracuda. I bought u-joints from Autozone. The Barracuda, Aspen, and Cherokee u-joints are all the same, 13/16" cups, I believe.
For the wheels, I am running Mustang GT alloys. The Jeep rear is a little wider than the original, but I think the backspacing on the wheels makes up for it. If anyone is interested, I'll post pictures.
