Power Steering Pump rebuilt!

I am guessing this is the TRW pump, which came on early cars. The later Federal pump looks almost identical but does not have the long channel for the rear bracket. However, I wonder why your reservoir doesn't have the 2nd bolt hole.

I also rebuilt my TRW pump, using a kit (seals and bearing). My Harbor Freight "pulley puller" fit fine. I kind of recall a snap ring under the pulley that secured the shaft seal. I don't recall anything about pre-loading the bearings (screw up?). My main mistake was getting too jiggy and not photographing the orientation of the shoes. Staring at the instructions didn't help, so I put them in the way that seemed right. I wound a steel wire around the shoes to compress the springs to slide the "armature" in. I didn't fool with the pressure-relief valve.

Does mine work? I don't know since turns out I couldn't use it on my 65 273 since I changed to the later alum water pump and there are no brackets for that. I had to get a Federal pump and brackets (Bouchillon), though I later read that the Saginaw pumps are better. Anyway, my 65 Newport uses the TRW pump.
