How much would switching from 2.76 gear's to a 3.55 gear improve my 1/4 mile time? My combo is a 74 duster with a 360 with speed pro flat top's,lunnati .480 -292 cam 2.02 j head's 600 edelbrock carb and a torker intake,3500 stall converter and 727. My best run so far was 13.38 @103.85

.............................Trash the Torker..........a good dual plane will pick u up 2-3 tenths.......+ a 700 cfm carb.........kim.........

one things for sure. your converter will like it. a little less slip

Welcome to FABO!

That combo is stout!!! Gotta be a powerglide type run thru the traps in 2nd gear. I'd think a 1/2 sec increase is within your grasp if all the stars align.....I'd guess you'll pick up a few mph and cross the line 2/3rds thru 3rd gear with the 3.55's. From a et perspective, 3.91s/4.10s would probably be best, but you should pick up a ton and still have a decent gear for the street.

My guess is the 3.55 gears would get you down to about 13 flat. If you also put a 750 Holley carb on there you would probably be somewhere in the 12.70's ish........JMO.

I have another question,i'm thinking of using a 93 jeep Cherokee 8 1/4 that's the only reason for 3.55s since it's so hard to find a reasonably priced 8 3/4 around my area.Is this a good idea? I really don't have the cash for anything else this car was built with what I collected over the year's,nothing better than beating the rich guy in his mustang!

A good idea,if you can fabricate. I am impressed,by the tuning you have done. That's ,unreal quick. Remembr, gears change timing, and load on the fuel & timing .GREAT JOB!

Yeah it's a combo that just plain work's and reliable, now I have my brother building a 408 so he can beat me! we'll see, i see busted drive train in his future.lol

Lots of the Explorers had 3.55 in the 8.8's and thats what I run. For around $300 I lost the wimpy 7.25, had disc brakes and the gear of choice BUT, I'm positive most of the guys here would abuse me for using contraband iron. LOL

I back you up, love my 8.8 swap. 3.73 LSD.

13's with 2.76 gears aint nothin to sneeze at.

Holy $@!t..don't touch a thing...
I know guys who can't run that fast with a stock 360 with that 484 cam and 4.56's and a real carb..:-D

rule of thumb for every 50 ft lb you pick up a tenth so you should pick up .15 or there about

The 408 will slay you. You can't win with that wimpy 360. chump.

I have a mancini racing 360 and 2.76 and most I can do is 89 mph in 15 seconds... I'd love to be breaking a hundred like you haha

Better be nice to him. You might have to get him to tune yours up...lol. :D

Who's older?

My best with with a stock 360 with low compression dished pistons and 3.91 gears is 13.4 at 98 mph . 408 this summer!

Cool! Hopefully this winter's %#$&@% weather breaks fairly early for you guys. If not, he with the biggest snow tires wins.

Lmao! We(local guys,no more to protect the guilty) used to this 15 years ago, racing each other. Talk mild trash,win/lose .Loser bought breakfast, that morning. Awesome.

i had almost identical combo in a 68 4dr dart best run with a 2.76 geared 7 1/4 was 13.34 @104 i find that amazing that the combos ran so close together!! i swapped to 3.91's and went 12.76 but mph stayed @104 and i did have a 750 holley. im sure you combo will wake up with a bigger carb. but i would think with 3.55's and the 600 your good for a 12.90 run........ and i would think most of you gain will be out of the hole cause that 600 is gonna restrict top end power.
