Probably been asked before but couldn't find any info...

I finally bucked up and ordered Doug's headers to replace my Hooker style..I had a hard time with studs in the end bolt holes for the headers so I used bolts, but I'd like it if water didn't pour out of my heads when I pull them out in the future.

Are you guys with Doug's headers able to run studs in those holes? I can't tell in the picture if they give you studs or not....damn Internet.

Just need some thread sealant on them bolts. I have always felt like studs were a pain in the *** using headers. I seem to remember you have to remove them to get the header on or off, even during a gasket change. So the dumping water is there either way. You could probably drain the coolant to avoid the problem.

Yeah, that's why I didn't use them with the old headers. I was wondering if the Doug's will slip on them easier though...I'd rather use them so I don't have to clean the bolts, re apply sealant, top off coolant, clean up floor...any time I take the bolts out :/ not like it's THAT often, and hopefully less after I put the engine and trans back in AGAIN ... lol

I run studs in all my engines on my 340 with Edelbrock heads with Dougs headers there were 2 bolt holes that studs would not work because i couldn't tighten the 12 pt nuts up. No wrench would fit the in that tight a spot so I just used bolts and an open end wrench. PM me if you need pic's I don't have my camera with me

Alright then, here's the answer. Grabbed some Professional Products #20150 studs. Perfect size, stainless, lifted engine up, slapped the headers on, tightened, dropped engine. Easiet A body header install ever!

Don't forget to tighten the nut on that shock...

Hah yeah just painted the bay so the shock threads are full of paint. Yes I installed the studs then the headers. Worked great! They're carb studs BTW!

You can probably run studs all day if you just jack up the motor off the K member (2 nuts) to change gaskets or whatever you do. I found that those end bolt holes that are open to coolant tend to be thinner/weaker than the others and I have stripped 2 of them out with bolts. You can always slot the header flange so you can just pull them up and off. You wont weaken that thick flange one bit.

Good point! I don't want to cut them and get the rust started though at this time. I figure you have to jack it up anyway, so no need. Pulling the t bars is probably an alternative but I'd rather not! Now let's hope everything is functioning again so I can finish paint and really drive this mean mean 38 teen ;)
