I am converting my 1971 duster from 6 cyl. I have a 340/727\ 8 3/4 rear. This is a street performance car . Im not sure which leafs to go with. Has anyone had experience with Mancini XHD spring? or Jeggs? they are both under $250 a pair I like the price not sure if they are any good? Thanks for your input.

I put the Jegs XHD springs in last summer, replacing the original leaf springs on my Swinger. Picked up about 2 inches of height (old ones were sagging to the point the pinion snubber on its lowest setting was hitting the floorboards on wide tarstrips). Only put about 150+/- miles on it before it was time to put away in storage, but so far, happy with them.

If you want a lifted car use them. I would keep the old if it were me. Low is a go! I would keep the 6 torsion bars in it also. Hey but again that is just my thought for my intended use. 90/10 caltrac shocks up front and some caltac 9 ways in in the rear.

You could get a set of AFCO's.

I have 20231M's on my Duster, this is how it sits with those in the back.

If you want it to sit a little higher, get the 20231's.

Only thing is that you need a different rear bushing because the AFCO's have 1" rear spring eyes. Energy Suspensions 2-2117g's fit the bill, they'll work with the stock rear shackles.

Only keep the /6 torsion bars if you plan on having a drag race only car. If you actually want your car to go around corners in a somewhat horizontal fashion, get a set of 1" bars. If you want it to handle like its on rails, get a set of 1.06's.

I have Mancini's XHD + 1" springs under my duster.
The springs bolt right in to factory everything, I also added a 1" lowering block.
With the lowering block they clear 275/60/15 with no problem.

Are the AFCO's a 20.5 front segment springs? They offer a HD front segment spring I think may be better at controlling wrap.

Thanks everybody for the input. I plan on leaving the torsion bars at the moment but im sure I will re-visit after a while. I have 14" rally wheels with cooper cobras which I hate because they are tiny and the previous owner made the choice. I was thinking 275/6015 in the rear and 245/60 15 in the front would work with nice. Why the lowering block? Is it too high? Sireland67

+1" springs raises the car 1" from stock. Block is used to bring it back for some reason.
I would order -1 springs. I did on my mono leafs plus I had them start the bend different on tbe front eyelet to gain another 1/2" there also. No block required.

It was too high, but I only have about 500 miles on them so it will settle down some.
245/60/15 will not fit on the front, max front size is a 225/60/15 or a 215/65/15.
This is using a 15 x 7" wheel with 4.25" back space. (factory steel or rally).
The 275 fit the rear with no issues using the same wheel.

I run the xd's from mancini and they are way too stiff! The car is horrible to drive and even the slightest bump feels like ur driving off a cliff! I'm going to remove a couple leafs and if it doesn't get better I'm getting rid of them. I hate to scrap them as they only have 100 miles on them but I can't stand them.

Yes, 20.5" front segment. That's why I went with them, they have a reinforced front section. Plus they actually spec the spring rate and the arch.

The 20231m's I have are 121 lb/in springs and have a 6 5/8" actual arch. On the car they sit slightly above zero arch. That's on the Duster though.

I was afraid of them being too stiff- I had my challenger done at a local shop years ago and they put like 7 leaves and the thing had no bounce rode like a hardtail..lol cornered like a tractor trailer

So you all know, the majority of the springs you are talking about come from a
company called JRS...John R Spring services. Cut the middle man out, and go straight to the source. Or go where you can get the best price. My favorite springs of all time were a set from JC Whitney. You guessed it, JRS springs.

Really?too stiff? I have the mancini xhd springs...they ride good...but i had to put 2 inch blocks on it so it would not be way high in the rear....

Yes back breaking stiff...feels like I have everything welded up solid. Worst ride of any vehicle I've ever been in...

I installed the Mancinis XHD springs and could not be happier! Nice lift (if that's what you want) but not too high and not done with crappy air shocks or long shackles.

Maybe I did something wrong, Put in an 8 3/4, relocated the springs, new shackles and new shocks. Stance is about right but the ride is horrible. You hit a bump and I mean any bump and it feels like the whole rear of the car comes off the ground. Gonna see if I can make a few adjustments and then I'm gonna start removing leafs.

What shocks do you have? Remove them and see what it does, they might be bottoming out because of the spring relocation.

Yea I'm gonna pull the shocks and move things around and see what happens. The shocks are replacements I bought years ago for one of my other 67's and never used them until I put this rear in.

Figured out that my ultra stiff ride was being caused by the shocks being way to short and bottoming out. The driver side rear shock isn't working at all and the passenger side is just barely working so it pretty much destroyed them in short order. Now I just need to find some good shocks that are 20 inches when fully extended and it should be fine. Any suggestions on what brand/style to get? Been looking and not coming up with much as far as size and price. I relocated the springs in 3 inches so maybe that had something to do with the demise. Just looking for a smooth comfy ride for a strictly street car. Thanks, Clay

old tread info added

same here happend relocation spring and shocks bottom out bad, so I unbolt shock and I go for a ride, and nothing , no more hard tail bottom out !! will look at some shorter one shock.and also leaf are flat no more arch, so I think I will order the mancini xhd.
